Sweet's Column By Barb Sweet Hi stars and welcome to the big stage all lit up in colorful bright lights and decorated to help celebrate with all our stars who will have a birthday or anniversary in the week of January 20 -26. Come up onto this stage and take a bow. BIRTHDAYS January 20 -Keleb Hartley; Cassidy Michelle Perry; Am- ber Ball; Jason Halfactor; The- resa Hall turns 16. January 24-Laura Sweet Hensley turns 41. January 25 -Jeanette Wheel- er turns 69; Stan Edwards turns 56; Dani Phipps turns 12. May all our stars have a re- ally great day and may all your wishes come true. Keep in your heart and in your prayers all our stars who are going through surgeries, treatments, tests of all kinds, those with allergies, and the aches and pains of everyday life: Mildred, Terri Ann, Tim, Annabel, Katy, Mick, Benny, Sue Ellen and Angie. EVENTS January 24-Winslow Town Hall at 6 p.m. February 1-Black History Month begins. February 2-Groundhog Day. Winslow senior citizens are meeting on Monday and Tues- day at the Community Cen- ter. Petersburg seniors meet in the courthouse basement. We received no postcards this week at Sweets Column, Winslow, IN 47598. If you have a birthday or anniversa- ry to add to our list, I would be pleased to add those names. If you don't want your age known, that is alright. Winslow Patoka River is al- most to the rim from the snow and rain we received the week- end before. The snowfall was less than an inch, but the high- er amounts went south of us. The rain in our area was about 3/4" with strong gusts of wind. The rivers all around us have risen and overflowed, like the White, Wabash, Ohio and Pa- toka on I-69. Besides the snow and rain, the winds have been breezy, with gusts of about 25 mph. Our temps all week have been in the 20s-40s, but the nights were in the teens and falling below zero for three of these nights. Norm insulated the drafts and it has helped quite a lot with these cold temps at night. Some stars have had their wa- ter freeze and on Main St., our town workers were knee deep in mud to fix a water leak. We hope your freeze wasn't that bad. To all of us seniors, congrats on the cost of living raise we all got in our bank accounts. Don't spend it all in one place or so the saying goes. Norm and I were out on the roads and what we saw wasn't too pleas- ing. Along the ex- pressways, like I- 69 or I-64, there was all types of trash, from cups, plastic bags or big garbage bags, to a plastic container, to a bumper from a wreck, and not to men- tion, a dead deer. We did no- tice that the sides and medi- an were mowed for the winter. Lots of truckers were out and we also saw two trailers haul- ing vehicles, not seen in quite a long time. Several trucks and trailers were pulled over, but some were there all day, so they got a ticket. We had a great day to get out and en- joy the day. Our decorations at the Win- ter Wonderland were taken out and stored un- til next year. Soon, all the signs of the sea- son will be taken down, but some leave the lights hooked up, but change the col- ors to whatever holiday or event comes up. Our next one is Valentine's Day. Not much reading this week as the lights are about to dim. Keep an eye on family and friends. Slow down and see all the wonders in your area. Wear your mask and social distance for the safety of oth- ers. As always, smile, wave and say "hi" to everyone you see this week. SATURDAY, JANUARY 22 • 10am EST at the Auction Barn – 2667 E.
