The Chargers hit the hardwood ready to play and, in the first quar- ter, outscored the Jeeps by one point, leaving the score at 13-12. However, in the second quarter, the Jeeps brought in the heat and scored a staggering 21 more points to the Chargers' 11, putting the Chargers at a serious deficit to overcome. The Chargers went to halftime with the score 33-24, a score they could come back from, but only with a fight. The third quarter began with By Matthew Haycraft Pike Central's boys' and girls' swimming and diving competed against Heritage Hills at Pike Cen- tral on Monday, November 29. The Charger boys' swim team lost out to Heritage Hills by a score of 86 - 83, losing by a mere three points in Monday's swim meet. The boys' team tallied eight firsts, four seconds and four thirds in the meet, gaining one more first in their second meet of the season than their first. The boys took first place in the: 200 -yard medley relay,, with Wyatt Luff, Isaac Burdette, Draven Rea- dle and Cobey McKinney making a time of 2:00.25; 200 -yard IM, with Readle stopping the clock at 2:32.63; Burdette in the 50 -yard free, with a time of 25.97; Xander Parker in div- ing, with a final score of 121.70 ; McK- inney in the 100 -yard free, with a time of 1:01.24; Readle again in the 500 -yard free, with a time of 6:15.94; Luff again in the 100 -yard back, with a time of 1:15.69, clocking a fast- er time by about a second over the last meet; and Burdette again in the 100 -yard breaststroke, with a time of 1:16.72. Take second places in the meet against Heritage Hills were: McK- inney in the 200 -yard free, with a time of 2:23.33; Gage Schmitt in the 50 -yard free, with a time of 28.62; in the 200 -yard relay, with Burdette, Luff, McKinney and Readle, totaling a time of 1:49.02; and in the 400 -yard free relay, with Parker, Schmitt, Ty- ler DeCoursey and Ethan Mann stop- ping the clock at 4:40.47. Pike Central boys' swimming al- so had four third place wins during the meet: the 200 -yard medley relay, with DeCoursey, Mann, Parker and Schmitt ending with a time of 2:17.82; Schmitt again in the 100 -yard free, with a time of 1:08.76; DeCoursey again in the 100 -yard back, with a time of 1:24.26; and Mann in the 100 -yard breaststroke, with a time of 1:25.41. GIRLS' SWIMMING The Pike Central Lady Chargers' swim team ended up losing to Heri- tage Hills by a score of 114-69 during their portion of the swim meet on Monday. The Lady Chargers ended up with one first place, eight second places and five third places. The first place swimmer of the night was Jillian Bai- ley in the 50 -yard free, with a time of 27.72. Second places for the girls' swim team were: Maddy Riley, Alexis Os- walt, Emma McKinney and Bai- ley in the 200 -yard medley relay, with a time of 2:08.75; Xavery Weis- man in the 200 -yard IM, with a time of 2:47.23; Tessa Vinnedge in the one-meter diving, with a final score of 135.05; Bailey, Addy Russell, Weis- man and McKinney in the 200 -yard free relay, with a time of 2:00.08; Bai- ley again in the 100 -yard backstroke, with a time of 1:11.11; Izzy Luker in the 100 -yard breaststroke, with a time of 1:25.79; and in the 400 -yard free relay, with Jakie Berry, Riley, Oswalt and Luker totaling a time of 4:43.75. Lady Chargers' third placers for this meet were: Berry, Luker, Weis- man and Russell in the 200 -yard med- ley relay, with a time of 2:20.34; McK- inney in the 200 -yard IM, with a time of 2:51.69; Weisman in the 100 -yard free, with a time of 1:07.36; Riley in LADY CHARGERS TAKE VICTORY OVER LADY MARKSMEN By Matthew Haycraft The Lady Chargers' varsity and junior varsity teams played Tell City on their home court on Tuesday, No- vember 23. In the varsity girls' game, the Lady Chargers came out strong and were ready to fight for the win during the first quarter. Senior Kya Sullivan sunk a three in the first quarter, along with a barrage of two pointers from junior Kahle Young, sophomore Brailey Mills and Sulli- van herself, along with a free throw from senior Mallory Hunt. This put the Lady Chargers with a two-point lead on Tell City by the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Lady Chargers accumulated a total of ten points, with most of them being from Mills. They fought through the quarter, but ended being one point behind the Tell City Lady Marks- men. The game was starting to get heated. The pep band played and drove the crowd into a frenzy, giv- ing the game that upbeat and home- town support that the ladies needed. At the beginning of the second half, the Lady Chargers came out with more determination than in the first half. They successfully upped their scoring and stunted the scor- ing of the Lady Marksmen, outscor- ing them in the end by 15 points that half. The Lady Chargers took the game by storm and proved that they have what it takes to take this sea- son head-on, winning this match-up by a score of 47-33. Coach Kyle McCutchan said, "We played pretty solid offensive- ly throughout the game, but picked up our defense in the second half and kept them to eight points for the half. Good to get a second win in a row and to get our first confer- ence win. Hopefully we can build off of these two wins going into next week." The Lady Chargers' junior varsi- ty headed off to Thanksgiving break with a win as well, defeating Tell City by a score of 27-22. The junior varsity started off strong, with 11 points made in the first quarter of the game, but were held scoreless in the second quarter, making the score 11-9 Lady Char- gers' lead at halftime.
