Highway 61 hopes to open end of next week The first phase of the Highway 61 rehabilitation project is expected to be complete by the end of next week, according to Jason Tiller with the Indiana De- partment of Transportation. The project started in early July, a month late, due to delays by a water line relocation project. Tiller said the roadway is actual- ly completed, except for the final surface layer. But there are still a few sidewalks, curbs and sod work to be done. Tiller said the cold weather is starting to limit the number of hours they can work on the proj- ect, because it has to be above 35 degrees for the concrete work and more than 45 degrees to put down blacktop. When Phase I is completed, it is expected there will be about a two or three weeks break before work on Phase II is started. When Phase II starts, the work will be from Seventh St. to Harvest Lane. The detour will be White River Ave. to Harvest Lane.
