Poplar Street, Petersburg It is time for my mind to do some Rambling. This past week has been rather slow for our household so this may be a little shorter than what you are used to. As a matter of fact I'm writing this while my stomach is upset. My friend and I went to Vincennes to shop while our wives headed for Evansville to shop. Our shopping can't begin to compare with theirs, but for us it served the purpose. I did wake up around 3:30 or so in the morn- ing extremely sick to my stomach. So Satur- day I spent the day in bed getting up only to use restroom. It didn't last long but it sure gets your attention. I still have my lawn mower torn apart in my shop. So when I have been able to mow leaves I have used my old mower, which is about 32 years old. We use it to pull our trailer in the yard, but it still doesn't give us a whole lot of trouble. All I need now is time to get the yard finished. Two evenings I and two friends worked on the archway on the park lake levee. It got cold as we finished in the dark and without the sun. My friend and I went Thursday around 9 a.m. and finished putting what we could together so they could be installed. There fewer seg- ments then before but it still looks nice. This isn't a solicitation, but it is a thought, since it is one of the favorite attractions of the Christ- mas in the Park maybe we could start a fund to replace the bad elements of this archway. If you drive through the park and notice any of the displays not functioning please let some- one know so they can be fixed. Most of the time a GFI has been tripped and can be fixed fairly quickly. Did you all have a good Thanksgiving and did you remember to thank God for His great blessings? Our household was thankful for God's protection of health for us. We have been sick with the many different things go- ing round. Through it all we have been sick, but have been able to overcome and keep go- ing. A big blessing from God is our families and their well being. God definitely keeps a lot of worry from those who trust Him. Hopefully Cup Creek will host their Christ- mas cantata at the Stendal Gym on Dec 11. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we will all be sickness free. I have seen some of their practices and it promises to one of their best. We plan to have some special music be- fore the play if the Good Lord be willing. I have noticed that as I get older I get cold- er easier than I used to. When I was working some of our maintenance jobs would be out- doors in the cold. I don't remember getting so cold I couldn't get warm, but as I age I have trouble warming up. It must have something to do with how you have acclimated yourself to the cold or perhaps your body has changed and your blood just doesn't circulate like it used to. The one thing we found out when we were working in the cold was to try to keep your chest area warm as possible, because your blood has to circulate through your heart and it will help you stay a little warmer. We didn't make it to worship services this week since I was down in bed with the crud, but I do know God still wants us to be a bless- ing to all we meet this next week. "[Having] believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise" (Eph. 1:13). Of all the wonderful Scripture passages on the eternal security of the believer in Christ, this is perhaps the most blessed of all. "[Having] heard the Word of truth you be- lieved," says the Apostle, and "[having] be- lieved, you were sealed." Now a seal speaks of finality and permanency, whether it be the of- ficial seal on an important document, the seal on an electric transformer or the seal on a jar of preserves. But the most blessed fact of all is that the believer in Christ is "sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise." Mark well, he is sealed not by the Spirit but with the Spirit; the Spirit Himself is the seal. Here, let us say, is a woman sealing jars of preserves with wax. The jars are sealed by the woman, but with the wax. Thus the humblest believer is sealed with the Spirit. It is He Him- self who keeps us safe in Christ through all eternity. And this is but the "earnest," the first install- ment, "of our inheritance" (vs. 14), for the Spir- it keeps us secure in "this present evil age" so that "in the ages to come" God might show "the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus" (2:7). Little wonder the Apostle closes this pas- sage on our security with those appropriate words: "To the praise of His glory" (1:14). What some theologians have called "the per- severance of saints" is not our perseverance at all, but God's faithfulness. We have not perse- vered; He has preserved us by His grace for His glory. If it isn't revealed, it remains hidden. Some peo- ple see God that way, hidden and unknown. Such a view as- sumes God doesn't want to be known or even that God is in- capable of being known be- cause "God" is just a vague impersonal force, like gravity. But God has revealed Himself. He is not hidden. He has spo- ken to us, and if we will listen, we can not only discover what He is like, but we can come to know Him in a personal way. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your pres- ence will be appreciated and I'm sure you will feel the bless- ing of God. May God bless each and everyone.
