By Alex Mahrenholz 4-H Youth Development/ ANR Extension Educator Purdue Extension- Pike County Ever wondered how they come up with the stories in Mario Bros.? Or what the best strategy is in Monopoly? Pike Coun- ty 4-H's newest SPARK Club can answer these questions and more. The Clover Gaming Connection SPARK Club is open to all Pike County youth in grades 3-12, whether they are enrolled in 4-H or are not current 4-H members. This extracurricular club is an innovative experience that will allow members to play a variety of electronic and board games and learn the mechan- ics and process of game design as they create their own unique games. Engag- ing youth in critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and competition inspires confidence and empowerment for their futures. This SPARK Club provides a one-of-a-kind experience for youth to engage in active, hands-on STEM learn- ing while being immersed in cooperative group work with their peers. There are also a multitude of opportunities and ca- reers available within the gaming indus- try to be explored for youth. This opportunity for our county's youth is made possible in part by a grant received from the Pike County Commu- nity Foundation (CCF) Community Good Grant Program. The Pike County Clover Gaming Con- nection's first club meeting will be Thurs- day, Dec. 9 from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. EST at the Pike County 4-H Exhibit Building in Hornady Park located in Petersburg. No pre-registration is required. The club will meet from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. at the 4-H Exhibit Building on the following dates: Dec. 9, Dec. 16, Jan. 6, Jan. 13, Jan. 27, Feb. 3, and Feb. 10. The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, December 1, 2021 A-5 8 inch water main breaks Tuesday Petersburg crews repair a section of an eight-inch water line main just in front of Walker Motors on Main St. that caused a boil order. It broke sometime mid-morning, causing water several inches deep to be spewed on Main St. City Services manager Ross Elmore said they used a six-foot section of new pipe to repair the line. He said a few people in the immediate area probably lost water pressure, but the pressure should have been on by 5 p.m. Everyone north of 12 St. is on the boil order until further notice.
