Sadler According to doctors at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz., rat- tlesnakes thought to be dead can still strike, bite, and kill you. Doctors in Phoenix said they have a large number of patients admitted each year suffering from bites from rattlers thought to be dead. Sometimes the snakes were shot and their heads cutoff; but, the snake head re- tains a reflex action. In fact, one study showed that snake heads could still make striking-type motions up to sixty minutes after decapitation. Satan, that old Serpent, was defeated at Cal- vary—his head was cut off. Hebrews Chapter 2 says that our Savior, by His death, destroyed him who holds the power of death. But for a season Satan can still strike and wound us. He can still hurt us and poison our relation- ships and spread his deadly venom into our homes and lives. Paul admonished the Corinthians to take great care in this area, "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices" (II Cor. 2:11). Although this may have been true in the apostle's day, we are not sure it is the case today. It seems to us that many believers are unaware they are under attack. Satan can be very subtle and his de- vices are well planned. While his devices take on many forms there is one in particular that he uses quite effectively— worry! If the ene- The eternal message of Christmas is, a Sav- ior was born. Christmas is a time of hope, good will and a life-changing message we call the Gospel. This Christmas we find a world in cha- os, and the threat of terrorism as we shop for our family. The true message is in danger of being lost in fear and hatred among billions in our world. We need to rediscover the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas is a beautiful story about Joseph and Mary expecting the Christ child. The young couple arrived in Bethlehem and found no place to stay. They were strang- ers in town and finally settled for an animal shelter. It was there the King of Kings and Lord of Lords entered our world. He came to be one of us in order to save us. In many respects, that time was different from 2020. The Romans oc- cupied their land and times were tough. But God chose this time in human history for Christ to be born. No one could imagine a vast world with seven and one half billion people As we are challenged by the problems of the 21st Century, we are reminded these could be Hey readers, can you believe it is time for an- other column to be written and this will sound strange but I really don't have much to say, can you believe that? I'm usually never at a loss for something to say but this has been a fairly easy week with little to comment on. Seems like when I ring the bell for the Sal- vation Army I always see some old friends from IPL and this past Saturday was no ex- ception to that, but I remember seeing four in that one hour shift of ringing. This week has four shout-outs; and they are Greg Poehlein, Greg Harbin, Tony Simms, and Larry Freder- ick. Each one of these guys makes me happy to call them friends and they were no differ- ent than the rest as they were really good to work with. By now you should realize that the guys at IPL were almost like family because we spent almost as much time working as we did being at home. I certainly pray for my shout- out friends this week many blessings of health and good fortune. There was definitely a sense of being depended on that made you look out for one another. Have you given any thought to the COVID vaccine and if you trust it or not enough to re- ceive it? A fter being sick for about two weeks myself and losing several friends to this dead- ly virus I can't refuse a chance to not take the CHURCH CHURCH Notes Notes Notes Baptist Baptist Continued on the next page Baptist Assembly of God RIVER OF LIFE 342 E. "And the angel of the Lord said unto them, 'Fear not; for behold I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior. And this shall be a sign unto you, ye shall find the Babe wrapped in swad- dling clothes, lying in a man- ger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host praising God, and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth, peace good will toward men'" (Luke 2:8 -14). Just when we think the world situation couldn't get any worse, COVID-19 couldn't get much worse, our trials in life couldn't get much harder, Christmas comes. The one thing that remains the same. God sent his son that the world might be saved. What could be any- more comforting than that.
