I was impressed with how things seemed to go smoothly, yet thinking there had to be moments of turmoil. Everyone was comfortable in their roles. They handled whatever challenges came up and moved on. They made it look so easy. It wasn't, they were just that good, I thought. Earlier this year we all had our lives changed. I had never thought of "Social Distancing" or "Contact Tracing." Now we can't avoid hearing about them. This is when the PCSC family's commitment to this community became apparent. Everyone pitched in, doing whatever was needed to complete the school year. The caring and commitment continued through the summer as folks worked to pro- vide food for kids in the area, not just PCSC kids, all kids. Now we have started another school year while dealing with uncertainty; knowing that things were not how any of us wanted, still aren't. Everything can change in an in- stant. And through all this, the PCSC fam- ily is working together for our students and our community. Hours and hours of working on lessons, health reports, schedules, meals, cleaning and hundreds of other tasks that go unseen by the rest of us. Yet these dedicated folks are there until the work is complete. Commit- ment, heart, love for others, that's what I see. I appreciate their efforts and the diffi cult jobs they do. Thank them when you get a chance. I am thankful to be associated with them. Fire departments receive grants administered by DNR Forestry More than 70 rural and vol- unteer fire departments from 47 Indiana counties have been awarded more than $ 320,000 in Volunteer Fire Assistance grants, DNR Director Dan Bortner announced. The awards will be used for training, installation of dry hy- drants, or to purchase neces- sary firefighting equipment and gear to combat wildland fires. The grants are adminis- tered by the DNR Division of Forestry and made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service. Recipients were selected based on population densi- ty, acres of public wildlands protected, and wildland fire reporting to DNR Fire Con- trol Headquarters. As in past years, emphasis was given to projects that involved the fighting of wildfires. The awarded grants range from $1,000 to $5,000 and were given to 76 departments. Local Fire departments re- ceiving the grants were: Pe- tersburg VFD and Jefferson Township VFD, both receiv- ing $5,000 for Safety and the Oakland City Fire Dept. re- ceived $2,678.26 for Wildland. Fire departments inter- ested in applying for future grants should contact Mark Huter, Assistant State Fire Co- ordinator, Fire Control Head- quarters, 6220 Forest Road, Martinsville, IN 46151, or call 765 -792-4654.
