By Loretta Cozart On Friday, September 4, Absentee Ballots began being mailed to North Car- olina residents who had re- quested one. Allow a week to 10 days for it to get to you. If you do not receive your ballot within that time, contact your county board of elec- tions. When your ballot is accepted by your county board of elections, that in- formation will be posted in your voter record. While it has not been launched yet, you will soon be able to track your ballot through the mail by going to the NC State Board of Elections' new BallotTrax portal. With only 55 days re- maining until election day, voters have until October 27 to request their Absen- tee Ballot. Early voting be- gins on October 15. Each of North Carolina's 100 counties has a county board of elections with five members who are regis- tered voters in that county. The State Board of Elec- tions appoints four mem- bers – two Democrats and two Republicans – to each county board of elections. The state chairs of the Re- publican and Democratic parties recommend three registered voters to the State Board. T h e S t a t e B o a r d chooses two members from each party to serve on each county board. They serve two-year terms. The governor appoints the chair of each county board.
