Mark Wade,Deacon FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 This past Sunday we wrapped up our series, We are the Church, looking at how the New Testament calls us all as a church to go, and be disci- ple makers. Though we all in the body of Christ have differ- ent gifts, we all have one call. If you missed any of the three messages from this series I in- vite you to find them on our Facebook page. For many of us the season during this pandemic has been tough, plans have changed, 2020 didn't go the way we ex- pected it to. And some days we don't know what is next. But I remain encouraged that as we go on we can still find hope. We still find hope in God's sov- ereignty. Joseph in the Old Testament told his brothers "You meant this for evil." Meaning they intended evil for him, to beat him, sell him to slavery, and ultimately hope he would die in Egypt, and never to hear of him again. But he continues "God meant it for good…" Jo- seph doesn't say that God de- cided to show up in the midst of the chaos and work with what was there. Not even while his brothers were wishing and doing evil, God was setting up a good that no one could fore- see. So, while the enemy us- es pandemics, pestilence, dis- ease, violence, and death for evil, God is working for the ultimate good. The good we see when we see Christ on VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. State Rd. 56 Sunday morning worship and the Lord's supper at 9:30 a.m.; Sunday school at 10 :30 a.m.; Evening worship at 6:30 p.m. Topic study: Practical Christianity. We will meet in accordance with social dis- tancing and will wear face masks. You are invited to wor- ship with us. Faith "Faith sees farther than sight and trusts God the rest of the way." The Bible says, "For what- ever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the vic- tory that has overcome the world—even our faith. Who is he that overcomes the world, but he who believes that Je- sus is the Son of God" (I John 5:4-5). Because He lives. John Manges, Minister WINSLOW CHRISTIAN CHURCH Corner of Lafayette and Walnut Pastor 812-753-3539 Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10 :30 a.m.; We extend a warm welcome to everyone. Dr. Robert Asa, Minister the throne, and as the psalm- ist says the earth has been made his footstool. Continue to take heart, and have hope. I know I will. Join us this week as we be- gin a two-week series on the book of Jude. Can't wait to see you. DJ Bryant, Pastor FIRST CHURCH OF GOD 2135 East Main Street Petersburg Sunday morning service at 9:30 a.m.; children's church at 10 a.m.; Sunday school at 10 :45 a.m. "And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit af- ter his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and TR AYLOR UNION CHURCH 4107 N. CR 1000 E. Bible studies will begin in September on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. at the church, or you may connect by phone at the above number. The church picnic will be after the morning services on Sept. 13. "I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have suffi- cient courage so that now as always, Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:20 -21, NIV ). Dennis and Lisa Patton, Pastors Church of God herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in it- self, after his kind: and God saw that it was good" (Gen- esis 1:11-12). Don Fausnaugh, Pastor Lisa Wilson, Reporter GLEZEN REVIVAL CENTER 245 S. Glezen Center St. 812-354-6738 or 812-582-9667 Sunday morning worship and children's church 10 :15 a.m. We will be providing hand sanitizer and practicing social distancing. Until this is lifted, we will not be shaking hands or socializing like we have in the past Sundays. Bible Study will be every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Women's Refresh and Re- new will be on Tuesday, Sep- tember 8 at 6:30 p.m. Pray for our military and their protection. Also, remem- ber to pray for the USA, peace, health and for one another. Loving what you can and cannot see "We love each other be- cause he loved us first. If someone says, 'I love God,' but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a liar; for if we don't love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see? And he has given us this command; those who love God must al- so love their Christian broth- ers and sisters." (1 John 4:19 - 21, NLT). This is a very powerful and meaningful passage of scrip- ture. It maybe a little hard to swallow, but truth it is. God is love and the fact of the mat- ter is, he loves everyone, even those that have committed wrongs, as we all have at some point. Wrong is wrong, to God, there is not half wrong/bad/ evil, there is only wrong/bad/ evil. I tell you this so that I can tell you that we all have com- mitted sin against God and must repent. How can you love someone you cannot see, if you can't love the people you can. It is not for us to judge or to place or bring judgment. That is for God and God alone. When having a problem with someone, you need to take those feelings before God and let him guide and help you in that situation. Pray for those that you consider your ene- mies and God will take care of it. But love them as God would and does, for this is the true measure of a Christian. God bless you and keep you. We welcome you to all ser- vices. Come and worship Je- sus with us. See our Facebook page Glezen Revival Center. Web- site: grcenter.net – E-mail ad- dress: glezenrevivalcenter@ yahoo.com. Rodney Fretwell, Sr. Pastor JESUS CHRIST OUR FIRM FOUNDATION 1415 N. Vincennes Ave. Petersburg 812-354-4424 or 812-582-0240 Sunday morning fellowship 10 a.m.; Church at 10 :30 a.m.; Bible studies: Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Brian Eilert's house and Thursday night at 7 p.m. at church. Reading "For the Father judges no one, but has com- mitted all judgment to the Son," from John 5:22, most of us might picture a courtroom with Jesus as a judge. It's dif- ficult for those of us born in America to visualize a king as a judge, because we have lit- tle information of those types of government and may not be able to rely on what we have been told about them. The Old Testament of the Bi- ble gives us many references of rulers and their treatment of the people. It also gives ex- amples of judges who helped people in their everyday situa- tions by a combination of their relationship with God, knowl- edge of the law and plain com- mon sense. Jesus avoided be- ing an earthly king, because He wanted all people to relate to Him. He is fully able to re- late to us and is best suited to judgment of us. We are guilty, and He decides on the pun- ishment or extends grace as He sees fit. Grace is for fam- ily, His family. Punishment is for everyone else. There's a big family reunion coming sooner than most ex- pect it. Family members will be recognized through the Holy Spirit. Have you accept- ed your invitation and started on the path of love and obe- dience of the One who loves us enough to take the punish- ment we deserve? The cravings of the self-life are obvious: Sexual immoral- ity, lustful thoughts, pornog- raphy, chasing after things in- stead of God, manipulating oth- ers, hatred of those who get in your way, senseless arguments, resentment when others are fa- vored, temper tantrums, angry quarrels, only thinking of your- self, being in love with your own opinions, being envious of the blessings of others, murder, un- controlled addictions, wild par- ties, and all other similar behav- ior. Haven't I already warned you that those who use their "freedom" for these things will not inherit the kingdom realm of God? We must live in the Ho- ly Spirit and follow after Him. So may we never be arrogant, or look down on another, for each of us is an original. We must for- sake all jealousy that diminish- es the value of others (Galatians 5:19 -21,25 -26, TP T). A con- fidence that never wavers, whether teaching or travel- ing, however engaged, how- ever tried. A confidence that our Father has a plan for us. Not a plan for our lifetimes merely, but a plan for each day. So, however puzzling and perplexing the maze of duties through which we must thread our way, noth - ing ever perplexes or puzzles us, because, putting our hand in the Father's hand, we just walk in the paths prepared for us. Everything we have to do, everything we have to bear comes to us as part of a prear- ranged plan. Things that dis- turb our work, things that up- set our purposes, things that thwart our wishes, interrup- tions, annoyances, these may all be a part of the plan, God's plan, and should be met ac- cordingly. There's a throne above the world. There's an Almighty God on that throne. He has a plan for things down here during this time of turmoil and strife. His Spirit is here to accomplish that plan.
