Pike Central Middle School boys' tennis coach Phil Knust said, "We lost to a tough North Daviess team earlier in the week. They are a counter punch type team, where our play- ers had a tough time adjust- ing to this type of play. We are hoping to be more pa- tient this week and to play smarter, and keep the ball in play longer before going for a shot. We played really bet- ter all around against South Knox. We moved our feet bet- ter and got in better position to hit shots." MS volleyball splits with Fort Branch The Pike Central sev- enth grade volleyball team notched a 25 -18, 25 -19 win during a road trip to Fort Branch Community School last Thursday. The team had a to- tal of 10 aces, with Alaina Mc- Clellan and Amilia Ahner fin- ishing with three aces apiece. Amilia played very hard and was a leader on the court. She also had five kills. Emi- ley Krieg had two kills and Delaney Welch had seven as- sists. I am so proud of the la- dies and how they came to- gether as a team." SOUTHRIDGE LADY RAIDERS A 19 -25, 13-25, 14-25 match with the Lady Southridge Raiders was a loss where "Er- ika Vinnedge had two blocks and four kills, and Lexie On- yett had 16 digs. Kenzie Pow- ell made 10 digs and six as- sists, while Maddie Williams had three kills," according to Shedd. Regarding the C- team's 4-25, 21-25 loss, coach said, "We came out slow and sluggish. It took the ladies a while to get going. Reagan Craig served very well and had two aces in the second set. She set very well for the team as well. Addie Faulk had one ace and played well defen- sively in the back row." The junior varsity had a close match, losing 17-25, 20 - 25. Coach said, "The ladies just couldn't quite get ahead and stay ahead. They were fighting to come back al- most the entire match. Amil- ia Ahner and Delaney Welch both had two aces during the match. Delaney had six as- sists, Liberty Taylor had five digs and Emily Krieg had one block." LOOGOOTEE LADY LIONS Loogootee notched a 6 -25, 14-25 and 9 -25 win in the var- sity match and the junior var- sity fell by scores of 13-25 and 18 -25. Coach Shedd stated, "We are lacking confidence in our abilities. Our team has great athletes. We can block, spike, set, serve and dig. We need to start believing in our- selves and come together as a team in order to win match- es. We will continue to work on holding our heads high and believing we are capable of being successful no mat- ter what team we are playing. Ashlyn Shoultz played great in the back row and also had two kills. Jaize Mills had two assists and played aggressive at the net and on defense." Despite a 13-25, 18 -25 two- set loss, "The JV had 24 digs during the match. Liber- ty Taylor had six and Amil- ia Ahner had five. Maddie Lamey had one ace and Amil- ia Ahner two. Liberty Taylor had two kills, and Alaina Mc- Clellan and Addie Faulk had one each. We need to work on breaking the serve and not al- lowing so many points during serve rotations. We need to come out with enthusiasm and confidence." CASTLE LADY KNIGHTS The varsity fell to Castle on August 29 in three sets, 13-25, 11-25 and 3-25, on the sixth day that concluded a string of four road trips. Coach com- mented, "I was proud of the way we started the first set. We got out in front 5 -1, how- ever we couldn't keep the momentum going our way. During number 40s serve ro- tation, we let them score 11 points in a row. It is hard to crawl back from a run like that. In the second set, the mo- mentum still wouldn't swing our way and by the last set, the ladies were too far down on themselves to get back on top. Lexi Onyett had 14 digs, and Kenzie Powell had five digs and three assists. Ash- lyn Shoultz and Riley Morgan had five digs a piece. Erika Vinnedge and Ashlyn Shoul- tz both had two kills. Haylie Fulcher had two aces." In the junior varsity match, the Lady Chargers fell by 12- 25 and 6 -25. Coach Shedd commented, "We came out flat on a Saturday afternoon. Emily Krieg had one ace and Liberty Taylor had one kill. Amilia Ahner had 10 digs and Alaina McClellan had nine digs. Delaney Welch had one assist." Coach added, "It was a tough week for all the girls. We have things we need to work on, but not enough practice time with our busy schedule. Things will start slowing down in the next few weeks and hopefully we can get the time to work on skills, and staying mentally upbeat and positive during the entire match." Eighth grader Xavery Weisman ran an 11:21 to second place overall at the Southridge Invitational last week. Eighth grader Blaine Barnett ran first for the Char- gers and was 11th overall at the Southridge Invita- tional. Ashton Evans spars with an Evansville Day School player for control of the ball during their match last Thursday.
