She was born July 23, 1941, to Clarence and Arbutis (Toots) Sharp Simmons. She married Jerry Rowe on August 27, 1959. She graduated from Winslow High School in 1959 and was a cosmetologist and registered nurse. She is survived by two daughters, Deannda and Me- lissa (Misty) Rowe, of Wash- ington; a son, Brandon Rowe, of Washington; a grandson, Tanner Hill, of Washington; sisters, Dixie (Gerald) Hale, of Portage; Connie (George) Lee, of Winslow, Vickie Col- vin, of Otwell, and Rhonda (Brett) Warner, of Petersburg; and a brother, Lanny (Brenda) Simmons, of Winslow. Preceding her in death were her husband, Jerry Rowe; her parents; her daughters, Tam- my (Tom) Field and Thessia Rowe; and a brother, Deforrest ( Wrex) Simmons. Due to the COVID-19 pan- demic, a service will be at a later date, with burial in Wil- liams Cemetery. Ed Lee Mor- tuary in Washington has been entrusted with arrangements. CHARLES L. GRUBB Charles L. Grubb, 89, of Pe- tersburg, entered rest on Au- gust 23, 2020, at Amber Man- or Care Center in Petersburg. He was born on August 8, 1931, in Pike County, to Ho- bart and Della Grubb. He was a retired oil field worker and for several years, he dug graves at Atkinson Chapel Cemetery in Oatsville. He is survived by his chil- dren, Della Gentry, of Peters- burg, and Claude Grubb and Charles L. Grubb, Jr., both of Francisco; and six grandchil- dren. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. EDT on Sunday Au- gust 30, 2020, at the Atkinson Chapel Cemetery near Oats- ville. Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel is honored to assist Charles' family. She was born in Hunting- burg on February 11, 1941, to Alvin and Leola (Malone) Krieg. She married Robert L. Sim- mers on September 13, 1969. He preceded her in death on March 22, 2006. She retired as a Patient Re- cords Administrator from Me- morial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper after many years of service. She was a member of Shiloh Unit- ed Methodist Church in Jas- per and participated in their Joy club. She was also a mem- ber of the Dubois County Pur- due Club. She enjoyed read- ing, puzzles, Purdue Univer- sity sports, and spending time with friends and family. Surviving are one son, Al- ex (April) Simmers, of Jas- per; one daughter, Amanda (Andrew) Nelson, of Fishers; two stepdaughters, Kimberly ( Jeff ) Layne, of Terre Haute, and Paula (Doug) Follow- ell, of Sullivan; one stepson, Kevin (Heather) Simmers, of Michigan; eight grandchil- dren; five step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchil- dren; three sisters, Patricia Graman, of Evansville, Pris- cilla "Susie" ( Jerry) Pow- ell, of French Lick, and Don- na (Duane) Temple, of Jas- per; three brothers, Norman (Mary Kaye) Krieg, of Jas- per, David (Maggie) Krieg, of Huntingburg, and Mike (Pol- ly) Krieg, of Velpen. Preceding her in death, be- sides her husband, were two brothers, Roger Krieg and Gary Krieg. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Septem- ber 3, 2020, at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Jasper. LARRY ONIS WILLIS Larry Onis Willis, 75, of Huntingburg, formerly of Winslow for 40 years, passed away at 4:40 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2020, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Cen- ter in Jasper. He was born July 16, 1945, in Huntingburg, to Wardell Onis and Annabelle (Richard- son) Willis; and married San- dra Carol Reynolds in 1979 at Grand Rapids, Mich. He served in the United States Army and worked as a lumber salesman. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Carol Willis, of Hunt- ingburg; three sons, Law- rence Onis (Brandi) Willis, of Stendal, Richard Allen (Les- lie) Willis, of Boonville and Christopher Wardell (Lind- sey) Willis, of Huntingburg; one sister, Ruby ( Vernon) Stephens, of Arthur; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. EDT on Friday, August 28, 2020, at the Nass & Son Fu- neral Home in Huntingburg. Burial will follow at New Lib- erty Cemetery in Velpen, with military graveside rites con- ducted by the Jasper Ameri- can Legion Memorial Detail. Olympus, entered rest on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She was born on Sept. 21, 1965, in Columbus, Ind., to Russell Wayne and Janice (Miller) Rainey. She lived in Oakland City for 22 years and in Owensville for 25 years. She was a member of Trin- ity United Methodist Church in Oakland City. She was a Brownie Girl Scout leader of six years in Owensville. She loved the outdoors, traveling, her job, and family and friends with all her heart. She previ- ously was the assistant manag- er of Goody's, the floral man- ager at Buehler's Buy Low and went on to Uniquely Michaels as a floral designer. She is survived by her mother, Janice (Miller) Rain- ey; her husband of only seven short years, Mike Hill; her two daughters, Shayla Clark (Aka Decklyn), and Kelsey Scher- zer; and two stepsons, Jacob and Christian Hill. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2020, at Montgomery Ceme- tery in Oakland City, with Rev. Julie Wood officiating. He was born March 30, 1950, to Prentice and Virgin- ia Young in Gibson County. He loved to hunt and fish. One of his greatest passions was serving on the Spurgeon Fire Department, where he was a lifetime member. He is survived by his daugh- ter, Mari (Charles) Schwarz, of Petersburg; and his grand- son. He is preceded in death by his wife, Erma Young; son, Kary Young; his parents; and his sister, Judy Foust. A graveside service will take place at a later date. MARY L. TORLINE Mary L. Torline, 83, of Oak- land City, passed away Friday, August 28, 2020, at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville. She was born January 24, 1937, in Evansville, to Robert P. and Anna F. (Seiler) Allen. She had lived in Oakland City for many years. She worked in the bakery depart- ment of the former Red and White Grocery and the I.G.A. store in Oakland City. She was a member of the New Life Tab- ernacle near Oakland City. She is survived by a daugh- ter, Dawn Davis, of Evans- ville; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Allen and Jerry Allen; and a sister, Ruth Boughton. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nor- bert Torline; son, Robert Da- vis; daughter, Jeanette Davis; granddaughter, April Davis; and siblings, Robert "Bobby" Allen, Laverne Casey Payton, Avalon Melton, Doris Allen and Phyllis Allen. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sep- tember 2, 2020, at the Mont- gomery Cemetery in Oakland City. Burial will follow the ser- vice. There will be no visitation. ROBERT HUFFMON Robert Huffmon, 88, of Washington, passed away Friday, August 28, 2020, at Daviess Community Hospi- tal, with his loving family by his side. He was born August 1, 1932, in Petersburg, to Edward and Sarah (Frentress) Huffmon. He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. He was awarded a Korean Service Medal and three Bronze Stars. He retired from the military and from Crane in 1989. He was a mem- ber of Christ United Method- ist Church, Washington VFW, Shriners of Evansville, Wash- ington Masonic Lodge, Scot- tish Rites and Washington American Legion. He enjoyed watching and cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Nicholson) Huffmon, whom he married December 2, 1981; son, Todd ( Jessica) Huffmon, of Odon; daughter, Sheila (Steve) Menahhofer, of Indianapolis; stepsons, Mar- shall Ray Riggins, of Pennsyl- vania, and Michael Lee Rig- gins, of Washington; two step- daughters, Bonita Hartley, of Washington, and Donnettia Merchley, of Jasper; sister, Judy (Art) Wheatley, of Indi- anapolis; five grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Mary Huffmon; grandson, Ry- an Cain; three brothers; and a sister. ROGER DALE WILLIS Roger Dale Willis, 73, of Pe- tersburg, passed away peace- fully on Monday, August 31, 2020, at Select Medical in Evansville. He was born in Petersburg in his family home to Wesley and Mary (Evans) Willis. He lived in Petersburg and Loogootee. He attended Pe- tersburg High School, Oak- land City University and Indi- ana State University. His inter- ests always centered around the art world. He taught at Dearborn School Corpora- tion for three years before coming to Loogootee in 1973. He enjoyed all classes K-12, as well as being assistant stu- dent council advisor, working with yearly academic bowls, and gifted, talented classes. He established an Artist in Residence program through a grant for the State of Indi- ana. Students from Russia, England, China and more spent semesters at Loogoo- tee schools. He was an avid traveler. He and his father took many au- to trips. He also enjoyed 11 trips to Israel, a trip to China and more. He was a valuable member of his home area of Petersburg. He was a member of the Pike County Communi- ty Foundation, Southern Indi- ana Holiness Association and Martin County Community Foundation. He was the own- er of the Ole Flower Shoppe in Petersburg at the time of his passing. He is survived by his moth- er, Mary; sisters, Jeanita Hor- ton and Juanita Richardson; a brother, Tim Willis; and nu- merous cousins, nieces and nephews. Due to coronavirus, a pri- vate service for family mem- bers only will be this week. A memorial service for the public will be at a later date.
