They defeated South Knox, 36 -31, on Thursday, Jan. 23. "It was great team win," coach JJ Howald said. Quade Morton led the team with 12. Julian Gish added 10, Ethan Meadors and Chase Ridao each scored five, and Zack Miller and Zane Gehlhau- sen each finished with two. The team lost to Fort Branch, 35 - 30, on Monday, Jan. 27, in the opening round of Pocket Athletic Conference Tournament. "Tough loss in the first round of the conference tournament," How- ald said. "We played a pretty good all- around game. We had about a four- or five-minute stretch where we went cold and couldn't buy a bucket and we could never get over the hump after that. We will see them in the last tournament of the year next week. We are looking for- ward to the challenge." The team is now 14-6 this season. The seventh-grade boys' team lost 35 -35 to South Knox on Thursday, Jan. 23. "South Knox has a couple kids with a lot of potential in the future," coach Jake Robinette said. "We shut their guards down, but their tall center end- ed with 24 points. Half of his points were on free throws and offensive re- bound put backs. We did a decent job of guarding him, but we didn't get a block out on him and he tore us up." Brenton Fryrear led the Chargers with eight points. He was followed by Noah Meece (5), Drew Dawson (5), Barrett Cooper (3), Albert Whitehead (3) and Jake Pauw (1). "I'm proud of all these kids this sea- son," Robinette said. "They are fig- uring out how to play as a team. We have a lot of individual talent, and we we're starting to see all of it together. These guys finished with only one win during their sixth-grade season. We beat teams this year that beat them by 20 points last season." The team finished the season with a final record of 5 -13. "They still have some areas to im- prove in," Robinette said. "But it was fun getting to see these guys grow this year." The seventh graders B team also lost to South Knox. They fell 19 -12. Parker Knust and Jakob Newkirk were Pike Central's leaders with three points each. Bra- den Schultheis and Conner Loveless each scored two, and Kole Besing scored two. "For the second straight B-Game, I felt like these kids gave everything they had," Robinette said. "It was fun seeing them progress through each game this year." The Chargers' sixth-grade lost to Heritage Hills, Thursday, Jan. 23. Lane Fredrick scored 10, Cameron Roy contributed five, Grant Boyd and JJ Bellmore each finished with four, and Bannon Mills had two. The Pike Central B Team did pick up a win against the Patriots, 34-22. Mills scored 19, Tre'Michael Dicker- son had nine, Ruger Troutman finished with four and Cohen Brown chipped in two.
