DSC_2107.eps Fiscus to make competitive boxing debut A local youth is planning to make his competi- tive boxing debut on Saturday, February 8 in Terre Haute. Brody Fiscus, 10, is the son of Tyler and Shea Fiscus, of Winslow. He has been training since August 2019 with Scott Arnold and Barba- ra Baumgart, of A&B Boxing Club in Petersburg. He will be representing A&B Boxing at his debut. His trainers said Brody has dedicated many hours and much of his own blood, sweat and tears to pre- pare for this event. He said he would love for the community to at- tend and support him at the Zorah Shrine Temple in Terre Haute. For ticket information, contact Pe- tersburg Policeman Scott Arnold. By Dennis Marshall Press-Dispatch Sports Editor sports@pressdispatch.net Things haven't gone ex- actly as planned for the Pike Central boys' basket- ball team this season, but the team might have hit rock bottom in a 84-18 loss at Washington (12-3, 2-1 PAC) on Saturday, Jan. 25. It was the Chargers' (1- 11, 0 -2 PAC) fifth straight loss after the team picked up its only win of the sea- son in the Greene County Invitational on Jan. 9. "Washington was a rough night for us," Pike Central had coach Hunter Elliott said. "We knew com- ing in that they would ap- ply pressure of some sort and we would have to han- dle that. I really just do not believe we came out ready to play and overall, we just didn't compete. I was very disappointed in our disci- pline, fight and just over- all pride." Elliott said he sat a lot of starters in the second half for numbers reasons. "We played some kids to get some experience," he said. "I was very pleased with Peyton Howald in his first varsity action. He didn't back down from the pres- sure or the level and he also got his first varsity points. Right now, when we face some adversity, we all go our separate ways and start doing our own thing. Un- til we start taking all of the little things seriously and sticking together no matter the circumstances, we will leave ourselves susceptible to games such as this." Ethan Scott had three points, an assist and re- bound; Ethan Gorby had four points, an assist and three rebounds; Hunter DeHaven had a rebound; Hunter Traylor had four points; Sean Hanselman had an assist and two re- bounds; Jaden Guth had two points and a steal; Jer- sey Mills had two points and a rebound; and Colin Craig had four points and three rebounds. The team played a lit- tle better in a 50 -49 loss to North Knox (7-9, 1-3 Blue Chip) on Friday, Jan. 24. "North Knox was a game that we got off to a slow start and then I really thought we played a solid three quar- ters," Elliott said. "We just ran out of time late in at- tempting to come back from the deficit." Scott had a strong game with a career-high 25 points. "He was aggressive to- wards the rim, which is something we need more of," Elliott said. "Sean Hanselman did some good things and really had been playing well the last couple of games. We knew com- ing in they could shoot the ball really well and one of our keys was to guard the 3-point line and I don't think we did a great job of that. We need to focus on all of the little things that go into winning a basket- ball game." The Chargers' other scorers were Hanselman (8), DeHaven (6), Craig (6), Guth (2) and Gorby (2). Pike Central will host South Spencer (12-2, 5 -0 PAC) on Friday, Jan. 30. Hatchets hand Chargers worst loss of the season
