Patoka Valley Amateur Radio Club offering free classes The Patoka Valley Ama- teur Radio Club (PVARC) is offering a series of six weekly classes for people that want to earn the Tech- nician Class amateur radio license. This license is the first of three licenses avail- able to ham radio operators, and the privileges include the use of portable and mo- bile radios, local repeaters (including some that permit world-wide contacts) and satellite communication. Some limited access to the High Frequency bands also provides an introduction to national and global commu- nication. The class focuses on pass- ing the Technician Class FCC license test, a multiple choice test with no Morse Code requirement. The week after the last class will be a testing session which provides the students the op- portunity to take the FCC li- cense test and obtain their Technician Class license. The class is taught by ex- perienced ham radio oper- ators, and provides a great way to meet other like-mind- ed people and become a member of the PVARC. Class meets six Wednes- day evenings, starting March 4 and ending April 15, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. EST at Huntingburg Public Library, 419 N. Jackson Street, Hunt- ingburg. There is no fee for this class. You must provide your own textbook, which is the Ham Radio License Manual by the American Radio Relay League (AR- RL), available at: https:// www.amazon.com/ARRL - Radio-License-Manual-Spi- ral/dp/1625950829/ref= sr _1_3?keywords =ham+rad io+license+manual&qid=1 579889248&sr= 8 -3. There is a $15 fee charged to take the ARRL VE license exam at course completion.
