The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, Januar y 29, 2020 C- 3 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued in next column Continued from page 2 Wesleyan Aleve once a day and then it still bothers me some. At least I feel like I have toned up and I have lost weight so I guess we'll just have to put up with a tooth ache in my back. Saturday we were sup- posed to be at two events at the same time. I didn't make either one because my back. One required standing in one place which does not do much for a sore back so we opted out of both and went shop- ping where I could relieve my pain by leaning on the buggy. It still hurt. Velpen General Baptist helped Cup Creek church Sunday morning by bring- ing their morning mes- sage which was about wor- ry, fretting and being con- cerned. Worry does us little good. We spend so much time being upset we often seem as though we don't trust God to help us. Fretting is the condition where we don't feel or re- alize there is any avenue of help. We never realize help is at hand because we are so miserable. Being con- cerned means you haven't given up and you seek help to overcome whatever your burden may be. Being prepared for our future is wise, but tomor- row isn't promised. So it may not be needed. I be- lieve I may have said this before, but we should have common sense enough to prepare for our future. Live as though today was going to be your last. Take care of your relationship with God. It definitely shapes your to- morrow. As always go out to be blessing next week and if you are able to help some- one receive the blessing you have earned. Rodney Fretwell, Sr. Pas- tor LIVING FAITH CHURCH INTERNATIONAL 601 S. 9th Street, Petersburg Phone: 812-809-4544 Sunday study from 9 - 9:35 a.m.; Sunday service at 10 a.m.; Wednesday ser- vice from 6:30 -8 p.m. and Rise Youth Ministry (6th- 12th grade) Thursday eve- ning at 7 p.m. "Just ask and it will be giv- en to you; seek after it and you will find. Continue to knock and the door will be opened for you. All who ask receive. Those who seek, find what they seek. And he who knocks, will have the door opened. Think of it this way: if your son asked you for bread, would you give him a stone? Of course not— you would give him a loaf of bread. If your son asked for a fish, would you give him a snake? No, to be sure, you would give him a fish—the best fish you could find. So if you, who are sinful, know how to give your children good gifts, how much more so does your Father in heav- en, who is perfect, know how to give great gifts to His chil- dren" (Matthew 7:7-11). Feb. 27-March 1—Youth Convention with Evangelist Rev. Joey Pyle. "Rejoice evermore" (I Thessalonians 5:16). There are three words in the English language which summarize the reaction of every Christian to the con- flicts of this life. The words are resentment, resignation and rejoicing. The Christian life is a life free from sin's penalty, but it is certainly not a life void of physical, emo- tional and mental conflicts. The world, the flesh and the devil are constantly making their demands, and the tri- als we are called to endure sometimes reach such pro- portions that the strongest saints are tempted to de- spair. In facing the terrific test- ing of this world, the Chris- tian has three alternatives. He can resent. He can re- sign. He can rejoice. God is always constructive, and the one who resents God's hand upon his life forfeits every compensating grace which makes life blessed. Strong souls are molded through adversity. The second response cat- egory belongs to those who resign themselves to their fate in morbid, fatalistic fash- ion. But the secret of victori- ous living is found in a hu- man cooperation with the di- vine will that brings victory out of failure and joy out of deepest sorrow. It is the se- cret of being able to rejoice in all the situations that be- fall us. There are Christians who are merely Christians; and there are Christians who are champions. The differ- ence lies in three words, re- sent, resign, rejoice! ( Jack Schuler). What is a thought? A pow- erful, spiritual action that comes into your mind. We are told to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. You have to recognize what spirit is sending that thought. If it is bringing darkness and confusion, it certainly is (not) from your heavenly Father. God wants you to have peace but that means getting in His Word and letting it transform your thinking. Rutherford invited the man to stay with him. When Mrs. Rutherford gathered the servants on Saturday to prepare for worship the next day, the guest joined in and was asked a basic question: "How many com- mandments are there? " When the guest replied, "11," Mrs. Rutherford said, "what a shame it is for you, a man of gray hairs, in a Christian country, not to know how many command- ments there are! " The next morning, Rev. Rutherford went out in the woods to pray and heard his guest doing likewise. When he discovered the archbishop's identity. Rutherford invited him to preach that morning. The archbishop topic? The 11th commandment, based on Jesus' words in John 13:34, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another" (ESV ). Office hours: 9 a.m.- noon, Monday-Friday. This week we are gear- ing in on how to encourage other. So how do you en- courage others and inspire them to achieve more than they might think is possi- ble? These four ways are a great start. 1. Show them you care— When you take the time to learn about others, it shows that you care. This empow- ers and encourages them. Take the time to learn about their family, interests, fears, challenges, and dreams. 2. Tell them verbally— Use the four magic leader- ship words: I believe in you. Take the time to tell your team, your friends, your family, and your followers that you believe in their abil- ities and that you are confi- dent that they will succeed. 3. Share with others— One of the best ways to en- courage someone is to tell others how great he or she is. 4. Help them—Simply ask how you can help them. It's important for others to know that while you trust them, you are also there to help. Make a commitment to- day to practicing just one of these ways with your team, your colleagues, your fami- ly, and others and you'll be well on your way to being a positive influence. We invite all of you to come and worship with us. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter CHURCH NOTE DEADLINE 10 A.M. EVERY TUESDAY
