C-2 Church Wednesday, Januar y 29, 2020 The Press-Dispatch Continued from page 1 Continued on page 3 Continued in next column Continued in next column "As diverse as each of us are, a love for dogs brings people together"—Willard Scott. This week, PAWS is fea- turing a sweet Shepherd mix named Koda, who is quite shy and needs a pa- tient family or individual to love him. He will bond quickly to his human com- panion and will no doubt make a very protective ca- nine. He's black and tan, and has warm, brown in- viting eyes. His crooked ear adds to his handsome appearance and gives him a distinct character. Koda has all his shots, is neu- tered and is heartworm negative. He can be ad- opted by calling 812-354- 9894. PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the KODA Baptist Revival JANUARY 31 & FEBRUARY 1 Beginning at 7pm EST Everyone is welcome! Evangelist Terry Stiles 506 N. 9th St., Petersburg • 812-582-0075 ble study. Remember those on our prayer list, the shut-ins and our lost loved ones. Watchful in Prayer One cold winter day, my friend Sue posted on Face- book, "Today I'm thinking about watching and wait- ing for life to bloom. My husband planted a beauti- ful perennial garden along the side of our house. Right now it looks dead, non-exis- tent, but I know that in a few months it will come back to life. I'm waiting and watch- ing in hopeful anticipation. It's there; I just can't see it yet. "Prayer is like that some- times. Psalm 5:3 says, 'My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.'" "Colossians 4:2 adds, 'Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving.' I want to live continuing steadfast in prayer, being watchful and thankful, with hopeful antic- ipation, because I know my God is working even when I can't see it at the moment." When we read God's Word and listen for what the Holy Spirit says to us in it, we can pray according to His will, and He will hear our prayers and answer them. Ephesians 1:12 tells us God saves us, "That we should be to the praise of his glory." What better way to praise His glory than to be steadfast watchful, thankful and hopeful in prayer in ac- cordance with His will?—By KE Horsley. Stewardship Some thoughts on Stew- ardship are: First, "Many a person with a good income have no 'account' in heaven." And second, "Steward- ship includes how you make your possessions, how you use your possessions, how you share your possessions, and to what you leave your possessions." Because He lives. Dr. Robert Asa, Minister Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service. When I bought my car last year, I remember being most excited about the space the car offered. I moving from small sedan to a midsize SUV. The best part was all the hidden compartments. Now, I wasn't trying to haul anything illegal, this isn't a Hollywood blockbuster. But built in compartments would be helpful on trips. Here is the kicker, a lot of us, have built in compart- ments in our lives. Maybe its bits of our lived we only share with some of our clos- est friends. But maybe it's a secret sin that's a source of shame. Hiding spaces can be good an helpful, but with Jesus, hiding, is never good. Jesus said this in the gospel of Luke: "For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and noth- ing concealed that will not be known or brought out in- to the open." Hiding from Je- sus is hard work, and never works out. But when we al- low Jesus to uncover every- thing, we can experience more healing than we have ever experienced. Later, this is proven when Jesus does raise a man with the same name from the dead, and those who are most like the rich man and his family doesn't believe, but want to kill Jesus more. The similarity of names is not a coincidence, but al- so has purpose. First, it calls us to believe in Christ, His work to replace us on the cross where we belong, to keep us from going to Hell as we deserve, and bring us to a willingness to love, serve, and worship God for eterni- ty. You have that opportuni- ty starting right now. Second, the name Lazarus means 'Whom God helps.' He has helped and contin- ues to help every step of the way, if we are willing to move in His direction. Won't you accept what He's offering? Don't walk away, but turn and run to Him today, before it's too late and the chasm is too large to cross without Je- sus as the bridge. Denny Wiscaver, Pastor Kimberly Flynn, Reporter
