Free Mammograms at Winslow Community Center Tuesday, Sept. 25 The St. Vincent Center, St. Vincent Hope resources will be providing free Mammograms on Tuesday Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT at The Winslow Com- munity Center. The Mammograms are provided to all women, those with limited income or without insur- ance, also to women with insurance, you need to pro- vide an insurance for billing. Pike County Has Talent competition audition is Sept. 27 The Pike County Arts Commission and Vance Hays will present a new vocal talent competition as part the Buffalo Trace Festival on Saturday, Sept. 29. Auditions are slated for 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27 at Main Street Presbyterian Church's Kiefer Hall. En- trants are encouraged to register at Petersburg City Hall prior to Sept. 27. The entry fee is $10 per contestant for those who are selected from the audition. Cash prizes are given to the top three places. The winner will perform on the Buffalo Trace Stage on Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Register for Buffalo Trace Festival contests Registration is now open for new contests at the Buf- falo Trace Festival on activity row. Culverts put in place on CR150N Three large box culverts were set in place last Thursday morning on CR150N in Logan Township. As- sistant Superintendent Josh Byrd said the heavy rains on September 8 caused two tank car culverts to be washed out. Byrd said the concrete culverts replacing those tank cars weighed 40,000 pounds each and were set in place by a 350-ton crane. The stream bed was prepared for each of the culverts to be set in place. A two by one inch strip of tar sealant was placed around the edge of each culvert and they were joined together by a device that can pull 65,000 pounds. The road was reopened Thursday evening. Mayor R. C. Klipsch, the National Anthem by Adam Houchins, Pledge of Alle- giance led by Boy Scouts, and Houchins singing God Bless The USA. The Pike Central Jazz band will perform at 7 p.m. followed by Joe Nobody Band at 7:45 p.m. and Rod- ney Watts Band at 9 p.m. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 Saturday's events start early with the Amber Man- or Walk-a-thon in Hornady Park beginning at 7:30 a.m. Pike County Has Talent gets underway at 9 a.m. It will be followed by the Buffa- lo Trace Pageants at 11 a.m. Also starting at 11 a.m. will be the pie eating con- test, followed by the dog show. The free carnival rides on Saturday will start at 1 p.m. and run until 10 p.m. A fternoon activities in- clude a water balloon toss competition at 2 p.m. and the Buffalo Trace Hairy leg competition at 2:30 p.m. The Main St. Bed Races start at 4 p.m. Several musical perfor- mances are set for Saturday. They start at 3:15 p.m. The Pike Central High School Swing Choir performs at 3:15. The Martins are set for 6 p.m. and Cook & Belle will take the stage at 8:15 p.m. Fireworks will cap off the two-day event and start at 10 :30 p.m. A vocal talent show will be a part of this year's Fes- tival. Any Pike County resi- dent of any age is eligible to participate and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will perform on the stage Satur- day, September 29th at 7:45 PM. The first place winner will receive $250, second place will receive $100 and the third place winner will receive $50. The performers can be so- los or groups. Only singing acts will be permitted and the performers must either accompany themselves or submit an accompaniment CD. Accompaniment CDs must not have any vocals other than background. No tapes will be accepted. A pre-audition tryout and registration will take place on Thursday, Septem- ber 27 at Kiefer Hall in the Main Street Presbyterian Church starting at 6 p.m. Performers who are accept- ed into the contest will be required to pay a $10 fee to participate. A group will on- ly need to pay one $10 fee for all participants. Performers will be told immediately af- ter their pre-audition if they are accepted into the con- test. Money will be due at that time. The actual contest will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sep- tember 29 on the Festival stage on Main Street. Win- ners will be announced im- mediately after the contest and are expected to perform in the evening at 7:45 p.m. between The Martins and Cook & Belle concerts.
