B-1 Wednesday, December 12, 2012 E-Mail Sports Items to: sports@pressdispatch.net Sports Tidbits From the Mini Mac By Mike Johansen W e have a little over two weeks until Christmas and I have found another item I think you will find to be very good and give you good information about the true meaning of Christmas. It is from the Web site of: homeschooledkids.com/christinchristmas. html. There are many items out there for kids, but I also thought this was good for everyone. It is simply called "The True Meaning of Christmas." C is for the Christ child who was born nearly 2,000 years ago in a manger in Bethlehem. "And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS." Luke 1:31. H is for the HOPE that Jesus brings to all who believe in Him and trust Him with their salvation. "By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." Romans 5:2. I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. R is for resurrection of Jesus Christ who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, was both man and God, died on the cross for all of our sins, and then was raised from the dead (resurrected) and is now sitting at the right hand of God in heaven. "For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." 2 Corinthians 5:21. I is for Israel who God chose to bring forth the promised saviour of the world. "Of this man's seed hath God according to [his] promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:" Acts 13:23. S is for the salvation that Jesus offers to all who are willing to confess their sin, believe in Him, and confess their belief in Jesus with their mouth. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16. T is for the empty tomb on Easter morning. " He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you." Matthew 28:6,7. M is for the mercy God has shown the world by sending His only Son to suffer for our sins and bridge the gap between man and God. "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:16. A is for our AWESOME GOD who loves us all unconditionally. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13. S is for the shining light that Jesus brought to the world! "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." John 8:12. Remember—Jesus is the reason for the season. Jesus Loves YOU! "Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever." Isaiah 9: 6,7. We always think of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ as a season of giving, but truly Christmas is a Season of Receiving. Christmas is a time to receive and accept the greatest Gift from God—"Jesus Christ." Christmas is a time to receive Jesus Christ into our hearts and souls. Christmas is a time to open our hearts and our minds to God. Christmas is a time to receive God's tender mercy, abundant love, forgiveness, and grace! Christmas is a time to give ourselves to Christ. When we accept Jesus Christ into our hearts, into our very lives . . . Joyful Giving becomes a part of our lives; not just Continued on Page B2 Lady Chargers get first win Topple Rebels in a home meet By Mike Johansen The first dual meet win of the season came to the Pike Central Lady Chargers girls swimming team against the South Spencer Lady Rebels while they finished second in a meet with Southridge. The Chargers downed Lawrenceville, Ill., in a dual meet in Illinois on Wednesday evening 48-30. On Saturday the Chargers had three seconds and two thirds in finishing tied for fifth in the Evansville Memorial Invitational, a bracket tournament similar to the Pocket Athletic Conference meet and Sectionals. This came despite some injury worries and some wrestlers out at the current time. "I was proud of the kids this weekend battling for fifth place from a pool of 12 at Evansville Memorial. We started thin having to forfeit 113, 170, and 195 at the beginning because of injuries and illness then lost two more to injuries during the tournament," said PC Head Coach Billy Hewig. "A.J. Ronk was tied 2-2 with 12 seconds left in the championship bracket match when he landed on his elbow and hyper-extended it and could not wrestle the rest of the tournament. Dalton Miller suffered a concussion during his consolation match with a hard hit to the mat. I do not know the severity of these injuries but these are two key parts of our line up and hope for their sake they can make a fast recovery." "Caleb Hawkins wrestled the A.J. Ronk tries to escape from Brent Kempf of Providence during a match in the semifinals at Evansville Memorial on Saturday. Unfortunately he was injured and lost by default after being tied 2-2. Caleb Hawkins has Cody Murphy of Paoli on his back in a bad position during a consolation semifinal match. Hawkins got the pin and won again to take third place in the Evansville Memorial Tournament last Saturday. best I have ever seen him wrestle and I was really impressed with his toughness and enthusiasm. He received third after losing to a really tough opponent from Harrison, but showed real promise during the match by getting his opponent to his back twice. He pinned two more opponents then pinned Southridge's 106 in the first period for a great finish at a tough tourney," said Coach Hewig. "Nick Baker had a good day and showed some great poise by pulling a great overtime win in the semifinals. He had a tough match up in the finals but he really showed improvement this week. Austin Bolin showed his ability to pull through on tough matches again by winning his first two by explosive pins when the match was close. In the championship he faced Logan Wedding, who is ranked in the top five in the state, and wrestled competitively against him by putting him in some tough positions and making him work for the win. Devin Phillips really wrestled a great tournament and put some nice matches together. He worked hard in his matches all day and had a match that could have gone either way at the end. He had a great tournament and he just keeps getting better each week. The kids really looked like they are improving and when we get our full team back we should be more competitive." The Chargers started off the dual in Lawrenceville last Wednesday with two wins and ended up taking a 48-30 dual meet team win. The results of the meet were: 106—Caleb Hawkins pinned Tyler Thompson, :19; 113—Jaccie Cannon won by forfeit; 120—Cody Whitehead was pinned by Jacob McKinstry; 126—Nick Baker won by forfeit; 132‚—Cordale Kenley was pinned by Zac Kocher; 138— Devin Phillips pinned Tristan Davis, 3:51; 145—Colton Brittain was pinned by Cole Westall; 152—A.J.
