Correction and Clarification There was an error in the Petersburg City Council story last week regarding compensation for City Council members. The base amount was raised this year from $2,544 to $2,600 and the length of service criteria added. Longevity pay for Council members under the new ordinance will be $100 for each year of service to a maximum of 20 years or $2,000. Based on the Council Members currently serving the total cost of the additional amount is $4,400 plus the $13,000 for base amount for the five city council members. The compensation for the Board of Public Works and Safety and Water Board are not paid from the general fund and not included in this ordinance. They are appointed positions. The total budget for the city is a little over $1 million. Utility funds are not part of the annual budget. The error was on the base pay for Council members and we apologize for that error. Patoka Township Deputy Fire Chief Brandon Truitt said About 10:30 p.m. he got a report of a fully involved abandoned house in Glezen. Truitt said when the fire department arrived the roof had collapsed and the chimney had fallen over. "There wasn't a whole lot we could do at that point," said Truitt. He said firemen were there about four hours extinguishing the blaze and containing it to the one site. The fire department is still trying to make contact with the owner and the Indiana State Fire Marshal will be investigating the cause.
