The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, April 14, 2021 C-3 Pentecostal Nazarene Presbyterian Wesleyan MINUTES Continued from page 1 Most people suppose that the law and the Ten Command- ments were given to help us to do right. Even some clergymen teach this, although the Bible clearly teaches that they were given to show us that we are guilty sinners. It is true that the law, while given to Israel, also shows the Gentile that he is a sinner. This is why Romans 3:19 says: "Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may be brought in guilty be- fore God." But most important of all: Few people realize that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins to deliver us from the just condemnation of the law. This is taught in the following Scrip- tures: "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, be- ing made a curse for us…" (Gal.3:13). "For God hath made Him to be sin for us, [Christ] who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him" (IICor.5:21). "For sin shall not have domin- ion over you; for ye are not un- der the law, but under grace" (Rom.6:14). Methodist Methodist virus I do have trouble keeping my thoughts straight and I find myself having to check and re- check my work more than I had to before. The 25E District gover- nor and I visited with the Jas- per Lions Club on Wednesday at their noon meeting. It was a good meeting and hopefully they will send in an activity re- port so the other clubs may gain some incite to their projects and perhaps find something they could also do for their commu- nity. The Jasper club has many good projects others could use. The Petersburg Lions do several things in our commu- nity but at present time we are limited by not having the man power to accomplish some of the things we would like to do. I know too well how busy each of us are. Believe it or not the busiest people make good Lions because they will set aside the time to accomplish what their club needs. This is a heart felt plea to everyone who reads this to help us help our community. Talk to me about joining and I'll do my best to show you what we do as an organization. Our grandson had to go to kindergarten round-up Friday instead of going to his normal pre-k class which gave grandma and I a shorter day so we got to go mushroom hunting and we found a small mess. Some of the ones we found you needed a microscope to see them so it was pure luck and no skill on our part to finding them. Seems like the forests are greener than usual which makes them hard- er to find. The old stink bugs have made themselves at home in our house and they are pesky during the evening whenever you have the lights on. We have a pest control person and he has yet to be able to do away with them although he has tried. We sure don't blame him. Any help on this situation would be appreciated. We moved every- thing away from the wall and put some barrier around hop- ing to keep them from enter- ing and it did help a little but not completely. It's a good thing they aren't mean, just pesky. In the mean time if anyone needs a sack full of stink bugs give a call. Our Sunday school was about the church being one body made up by many members and it takes us all to make the church work effectively. There are no big I's and no little you's because this situation can cause trouble within, which is easily avoided by loving one another and doing what God needs you to be doing. Our scripture les- son was about following Jesus and feeding the flock. Please if you haven't asked our Lord for forgiveness do so now right where you are right now. Don't wait. I have always asked you to be a blessing but I'm also asking you to turn your life over to Jesus so you can be such a blessing. I'll talk to you next week if the Lord is willing. Wednesday evening Bible study: We continue parables from Luke with the Parable of the Rich Fool. Review Luke 12:13-21 and come share your ideas with us on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. "Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So, the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe." Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said, "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand and place it in my side; do not be faith- less, but believing." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God." Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe" ( John 20 : 24-29). God Bless. Michael (Mike) Punke, Pas- tor PETERSBURG FREE METHODIST CHURCH 202 Walnut Street As the number of COVID cas- es decreases, people are start- ing to return to many of the ac- tivities they have been missing. We are returning to many of our regular activities. We cur- rently meet in person for wor- ship service at 10 :30 a.m. on Sunday. The messages are al- so live on Facebook, or you can watch the message later. With the weather getting warmer, we will start transmitting via an FM station, if you prefer to stay in your car and listen in the church parking lot. We will let people know when we start broadcasting and what channel to tune into. Sunday school for all ages re- opens at 9:30 a.m. Location of the classes has changed. We will help you get to the proper classroom. We have also started a new Sunday School class called "The Journey." Jodi Correll is teach- ing. This is not an age-based class. It is a discipleship class designed to help people know Scripture better, and become more like Jesus. It is a great class for young adults, new be- lievers and people who just want to be refreshed and grow, even if they have been following Je- sus for years. Youth Group meets at 5 p.m. on Sunday. It is our goal for our youth group to be service ori- ented. The teens will do a work project at someone's house or other ministry, and have a brief devotional. It is important that we have your contact information and a way to contact each teen, because we may meet at the church, or at the place we will be serving. Families are welcome take part in the service project, but the parents are responsible for their children. The nursery will remain closed for now. We don't believe it is a good idea to allow children of different families to play together at this time. If your child needs to be tak- en out of the service, the nurs- ery can always be used as a place to change your child, or as a cry room. It is important that everyone wears their masks until they reach their seat. We also ask that people stay with the group they came with and not shake hands. We use every other pew, and ask that you stay socially dis- tanced from those in your pew who you did not come with. We make every effort to ster- ilize our facility between ser- vices. There is a basket as you en- ter the sanctuary for tithes and offerings. You may also give online through petersburgfmc. org. There is a link to our website on our Facebook page also, and we often put announcements and information on both pages. Peace and joy in the Lord. While looking to the past can bolster our faith in God's provision, living in the past can blind us to all the fresh work of God's Spirit today. We can ask God to show us how He's currently moving, help- ing, remaking and sustaining His people. May this aware- ness prompt us to partner with Him to meet the needs of oth- er, both near and far. What new thing is God do- ing in your life? How is He us- ing you to touch others' lives and help make the world a bet- ter place? Pentecost passion Nineteenth-century evan- gelist Dwight L. Moody was walking down a New York City street, thinking about a sentence he'd heard: "The world has yet to see what God can do with a man who is wholly yielded to him." Suddenly Moody felt a great yearning and cried out, "O God, make me that man! " He was so overwhelmed with God's love and with heartfelt passion to reach lost peo- ple that he had to stop at a friend's house to rest. In Birth of the Body, Ray Stedman says this is what Luke is talking about when he describes the events of Pentecost. "When John the Baptist predicted that Jesus would come and baptize with the Holy Spirit and with fire, he meant that there would be an unexplainable passion about the church." As we feel the Pentecost passion, let's yield ourselves wholly to God and see what he does with us! Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Amy Melhiser, Secretary OTWELL WESLEYAN CHURCH 2277 N. Continuation on "How to build a relationship with God." Several things to remember when building this relationship: • Don't make this hard, keep it simple. Think of building a re- lationship with God just as you would a relationship with any- one else. • Take the time to touch base with God, acknowledging and giving thanks for His presence. • Invite Him to come close— to sit with you at your heart's kitchen table and just hang out. • Talk: Some days this will feel like pouring out your heart. Other days, it will be casual chit-chat. Occasional- ly, all you'll be able to manage is, "Here I am, Lord, please be with me." • Listen: Remember to make it a two-way conversation and expect to hear from God, just as you would from a trusted friend. God wants you to know how much He loves you. He wants to offer support and guidance to you. If you don't take the time to listen, you won't hear His "still, small voice." For me, this com- munication from God comes in any of various forms: thoughts, feelings, music, reading, na- ture, other people, or circum- stances. Make these steps a regular practice and expect it to take time. You'll find yourself gradu- ally learning to recognize God's voice and beginning to trust it. One day, you'll realize you're in a relationship with God that is treasured and invaluable in your life. Even with earthly friends, some days you feel clos- er to them than others.
