Lady Chargers down North Daviess 12-8 There was plenty of action on the base paths in the Pike Central win against North Da- viess varsity last Tuesday, ac- cording to Lady Charger var- sity softball coach Stephanie Dawson. Coach said, "Brai- ley Mills and Alyna Sharp had RBIs in the first inning to put Pike Central on the board. In the bottom of the third inning, PC tied things up at five all when a hard-hit ball by Mallory Hickey went off of North Daviess' left field- er's glove, scoring one run. "North Daviess' big bats were led by Gingerich, Persh- ing and Parisien, who led the team in RBIs and hits for the night. "Kenzie Powell pitched the first 3.5 innings for the Chargers. Chloe Williams earned the win for PC, com- ing in to pitch the final 3.5 in- nings. She struck out six and walked one. PC racked up 12 hits in the game. Karley Kava- naugh, Brailey Mills and Al- yna Sharp all collected mul- tiple hits for the Lady Char- gers. Kavanaugh led the way with three hits in four at-bats, one being a homerun and one walk. "The junior varsity also took a win from North Da- viess on Tuesday night. So- phie Carnahan went four of four with singles to right field and center field. She al- so went the distance for PC on the mound in the 17-10 win. Hits were spread out across the lineup for PC. Chloe Wil- lis, Delaney Welch and Mad- elyn Fiscus all racked up base hits for the evening for the JV. "This was a good win for both varsity and JV. North Daviess is always a compet- itive game for us. Over the last few years especially, their program has been very suc- cessful and we knew coming in that this would be a hard- fought game. This game was a perfect example of needing every single kid on the team to pull out the win. We cre- ated chaos in the beginning and took advantage of some North Daviess errors to put us on the board. "I was also very proud of some of the girls that stepped up for us at the plate tonight. Brailey Mills hit the left field double to score two RBIs in the sixth inning to put us up 9 -8. Then, Macey Stilwell pushed two more RBIs across the board for us in the sixth inning to put us up 11-8 and it was only her second varsi- ty at-bat ever. The two fresh- men came in clutch in a high pressure situation. "Karley Kavanaugh and Brailey Mills are gaining confidence in their offensive game and managing to get on base for us almost every at- bat, which is giving the team the little sparks we need here and there. We made some careless base-running mis- takes, but I'm going to call them growing pains. Work on it at practice and move on. As long as the girls can keep their bats alive, good things will happen."
