BROADWAY, PRINCETON (812) 386-1100 or 1-800-793-1676 PC run rules Memorial Lady Tigers 13-1 Pike Central record now 6 and 2 The Lady Chargers won 13- 1 Friday night on the open- ing evening of the Boonville Southern Slam Tournament against Evansville Memorial. With recent wins over North Daviess, Loogootee and now Memorial, they stand at 6 -2 on the season. Lady Charger head coach Stephanie Dawson said, "In the first inning, Lexie Onyett doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. Then, Tessa Vinnedge drove in two RBIs with a single to right field. This rounded out the scoring for the first inning. PC tallied four runs in the second inning, with Avery Hunt, Karley Ka- vanaugh and Onyett all driv- ing in runs. "Kenzie Powell led the game on the rubber for PC. She pitched five innings, scat- tering six hits and one run. It was the best game I've seen Kenzie throw yet this year. Her mix-up of speeds had Memorial off balance and our defense had her back 100 per- cent. "Memorial gave up 16 hits and 13 runs over the five in- nings that Pike Central run- ruled them. Onyett, Brailey Mills, Powell, Delaney Welch and Kavanaugh all had multi- ple hits for the Lady Chargers. PC didn't commit a single er- ror in the field. Welch had five chances in the field, the most on the team. She made some outstanding diving plays and backpedaling catches at sec- ond base. "This is the type of ball we have known all along these girls are capable of. They showed up and every single one of them was mentally 'in the game.' Their at-bats were hard fought. Their defense was on, and then Kenzie and Xia Stafford did a great job controlling the game, pitching and catching. It was a good, fun win. We will all keep push- ing forward and not get com- fortable so to speak." The remainder of the Boon- ville Slam Tourney got can- celed and the team was un- able to play on Saturday. Charger golf wins season opener By Andy Heuring Pike Central's boys' golf team opened their season with a win over Princeton last Tuesday night at Prides Creek Golf Course. The Char- gers were led by their lone se- nior Hunter Traylor, who had four pars on the day and one lone six on the par 5 second hole to shoot a 43. It earned him medalist honors in the meet. "I was pleasantly surprised in how we played. The kids have been putting in a lot of extra time and they are get- ting better," said Charger Coach Jarrod Gideon. Pike Central as a team had a 197. It was the first varsity competition for most of the Chargers. Tyler Craig posted a 49, as he had par on holes three and seven. Nathan Snyder had a 52 for the Chargers, followed by Ar- ri McDonald, with a 53, who was the fourth scorer toward the Chargers' team score. Other Chargers in the top six were Nolan Nelson at 56 and Cobey McKinney at 61. They beat Princeton by eight strokes, as the Tigers shot a collective 205. On Thursday, the Chargers placed third in a triangle meet at Cambridge against Gibson Southern and North Posey. Cambridge is one of the toughest courses in southern Indiana and proved a strong test for the young Charger squad playing it for the first time. Cambridge is the home course for both Gibson South- ern and North Posey. Coach Gideon said Traylor is the only player for Pike Central who has even swung a club at any course other than Prides Creek. The Titans are one of the better teams in southern In- diana and shot a team 157 as every player shot 41 or bet- ter. They were led by medal- ist Ryan Islam, who shot a 36. North Posey was second with a team score of 197. Pike Cen- tral shot 222. Traylor again had the low score for the Chargers with a 47. Tyler Craig shot a 54, Na- than Snyder a 59 and Arri Mc- Donald a 62. The Princeton Tigers and the Pike Central Charger golf teams squared off with Cobey McKinney and Nolan Nelson starting at the number one tee at Pride's Creek. Pike Central golf hosted Princeton at Prides Creek and came away with a win after coach Jarrod Gideon gave instructions to both clubs prior to action.
