Harvard University is planning to construct 1 million square feet of new property, most of it for academic and institutional use, on its real estate in Allston over the next 10 years. Harvard Business School will replace Kresge and Burden Halls with faculty and administrative offices, and graduate student housing near Soldiers Field Road will be renovated. Harvard Stadium, a National Historic Landmark built in 1903, will undergo a renovation that will include club seating for 350 spectators. The university and Samuels & Associates, its real estate partner, will also develop a residential and retail commons in the old Barry's Corner neighborhood. The school's basketball arena, Lavietes Pavilion, the second-smallest in the Ivy League, will be replaced by a new 60,000-square-foot, 3,000-seat venue. Harvard has also proposed a mixed-use development that may accommodate retail or housing. A hotel and conference center is proposed for the south side of Western Avenue. Robertson Jr., owner of Origen Property Management in Boston—have purchased the recently shuttered Locke-Ober restaurant and plan to bring luxury condominiums to the famed space.
