Aaron T. Nowark, 28, of 158 N. Whitelock Ave., Pe- tersburg, and Eric M. Slun- der, 30, of 9469 E. Walnut St., Velpen, were arrested at about 3 a.m. Sunday. Pike County Deputy Sher- iff Jason K. McKinney said he was driving south on Highway 61 in Winslow when he noticed two men, who looked like they were argu- ing, standing next to a van. Deputy McKinney said when he pulled into the parking lot on the other side of the van and came around the van, he saw the men were on the ground fighting. He ran over to them and pulled Nowark off the top of Slunder. Both told Deputy McKin- ney the other had started the fight. McKinney said he then viewed the convenience store video tapes. McKin- ney said it shows Nowark walk up to the store counter as Slunder's wife is finish- ing her purchase and leav- ing the store. She gets in- to their van and they start to back away. The van then stops and Slunder gets out, runs into the store right up to Nowark, head butts him and gets in his face. Nowark took off his jack- et and glasses, and they went outside. Slunder swung at Nowark, who then hit Slunder in the face, grabbed him around the neck and put him on the ground. Vanessa Slun- der tried to get Nowark off of Slunder, then McKinney drove up and pulled them apart. Slunder tested 0.172 per- cent for blood alcohol con- tent, while Nowark tested 0.113 percent. Both were taken into cus- tody. Rural Oakland City woman arrested on OVWI charge A rural Oakland City woman was arrested after police stopped her for speed- ing on Highway 64. He said when he approached her ve- hicle and talked with her he noticed the smell of burnt marijuana and that Smith had bloodshot, glossy eyes and slurred speech. Deputy Seger said while K-9 Officer Bleck was per- forming a search of the car she told him, "You won't find anything in there I just smoked at my son's resi- dence and don't have any marijuana." She failed field sobriety tests. Deputy Seger said Smith refused the blood test saying she would fail it. Pocket dial leads to domestic battery arrest By Andy Heuring A rural Winslow man was arrested on a charge of do- mestic battery after a cell- phone pocket dialed 911. Rodney W. McDowell, 50, of 5493 S. SR 61, Winslow, was arrested at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday by Pike Coun- ty Deputy Paul Collier. Deputy Collier said at about 2 p.m., central dis- patch received a phone call they said sounded like a pocket dial in which they could hear what sounded like a domestic dispute. Deputy Collier went to the residence located by the phone call and found Kim McDowell walking out of a residence holding her arm. She told Deputy Collier she had been in an argu- ment with her husband, and he grabbed her by her arm and twisted it behind her back. A few minutes later, Dep- uty Collier said Rodney McDowell returned to the property, where he was met by police. McDowell said he and his wife got into an argument over a bill and then got into a "scuffle." He said he didn't remem- ber putting his wife's arm behind her back. He was taken into custo- dy on a charge of domestic battery. We're not afraid to shed some light on the truth. 812-354-8500 SUBSCRIBE TODAY! Is Addiction Destroying Your Family?
