Sophomore Jayln Nel- son came off the bench to toss in nine points while se- nior Demi Croak and sopho- more Lauren Vaughn added eight and seven points, re- spectively, as the Lady Char- gers improved to 10 -8 over- all and 4-2 in the Pocket Ath- letic Conference. Senior Kimberlyn Weaver scored 14 points and soph- omore Haley Wilson added 13 points for the Lady Vi- kings, who fell to 8 -11 over- all and 1-4 in the PAC. In the junior varsity con- test, freshmen Mallory Hickey and Gracie Jones scored 10 points each while freshman Kenzie Powell added eight to lead Pike Central to a 51-18 victo- ry over North Posey. Ju- nior Kenzie Dunn tossed in seven points while junior Kelsey Barrett and Emily Carnahan netted six points each. Pike Central, which host- ed Tecumseh on Tuesday, Jan. 23, will close out the regular season at Heritage Hills on Thursday, Jan. 25. The Lady Chargers will take on Washington in the opening round of the sec- tional tournament on Tues- day, Jan. 30, at Princeton. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m., Eastern time. The winner will advance to the sectional's semifinal round against Princeton on Fri- day, Feb. 2, at 8 p.m., East- ern time. The championship game is set for Saturday, Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m., East- ern time. ing, Hendrixson hit the second of two free throw attempts to tie the score at 37-37 with 42.7 seconds to play. The Lady Vikings would turn the ball over on a jump ball with 22.6 sec- onds left, setting up Hendrixson's game-winning lay-up with four sec- onds remaining. "That was a set play we had set up," McCutchan said. "We ran it perfect. We got exactly what we wanted." "It was good to be able to execute and get over that hump and finally win one of these games in overtime," Mc- Cutchen added. Hendrixson, after being held to just one point during the first half, led Pike Central in scoring with 10 points, while Croak – who dished out four assists – and Nalley added nine points each. Nalley, who grabbed a team-high four rebounds, also had a game-high seven steals. Crow had six steals while Hendrixson tallied three more. "We forced several steals," Mc- Cutchan said. "I'd like to get steals that lead to layups for us, get us a jump start, but we made it difficult on them. We made just enough plays on offense to get the game." As a team, Pike Central made 15 of 38 field goal attempts – a 39.5 percent average – and hit six of 12 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over 15 times. "We just missed some shots," Mc- Cutchan said. "We got some open looks. We've just got to finish them, and we've got to be just a little more aggressive as a team. We've got a cou- ple of kids that look to score, but we need a game where everybody's look- ing to score." "But I want to give Barr-Reeve cred- it," McCutchan added. "They played us hard. They competed. They made it tough on us to score. We struggled to hit shots." Bullock paced Barr-Reeve with 16 points,Fuhs added seven points while Hughes and Wilson netted six points each. Hughes also grabbed a game- high nine rebounds. As a team, the Lady Vikings made 14 of 29 field goal attempts – a 48.3 per- cent average – and hit five of 12 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over 26 times. "We're trying to learn and compete and to grow as a team as we go," Mc- Cutchen said. "Neither team played their best, but it was nice to actual- ly win a close game, and an overtime game."
