This Sunday's sermon ti- tle is: "Jesus, God's Caring Word." Scripture reading: John 5:1-9. Theme statement: Divine intervention in human histo- ry and in the lives of individ- uals, always comes just at the right time. When we become a part of the Family of God, we become the focus of God's loving care. Jesus demonstrat- ed the Heavenly Father's lov- ing care by giving people what they really need. There are three ways that Jesus' loving actions show us how to care for others. 1. Jesus asked the lame man what he needed. 2. Jesus cares for those who seemed worthless, even on the Sabbath. 3. Jesus cared for the man's soul. Leon Pomeroy, Pastor PETERSBURG FREE METHODIST CHURCH 202 E. Will you sit by and let the lost, hurting world outside the church just slip into an eter- nity of hell, fire and brim- stone or will you rise up and fulfill the great commission. Jesus said, "Go ye into the world and compel them to come in and baptize them in the Holy Ghost." If Je- sus said it, how much more plain does it need to be? Be blessed as you go forth. Pray for your country, our president and government, your local government, our soldiers and all pastors. Re- member to pray for the sick and afflicted, and those in the nursing homes and hos- pitals, and also pray about the elections. Be a friend to your neigh- bors, co-workers, any with whom you come into con- tact. To have a friend, you need to be a friend. Jesus said what you give out is what you will receive back. May you find peace and joy in your life this week. A penguin "parable" During storms, emper- or penguins huddle for warmth, taking turns at the center and on the perime- ter of the group. While in- cubating eggs, up to 6,000 male penguins have been observed clustering for shelter in protective "créch- es" (French for "cribs"); of- ten surrounded by a colony of adults, these groupings ward off predators and cold. In stormy times, hu- mans also need support- ive groups; we can't sur- vive alone. A church fam- ily allows us to take turns giving and receiving care. Amid social upheaval, in- justice, illness, natural dis- order and any loss or crisis, God invites us to gather for protection and warmth. In the church community, we support and strengthen one another and are empowered to go out into the less-shel- tered world. Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Tuesday morning wom- en's Bible study at the fel- lowship hall 10 a.m. Don't forget to smile A little girl walked to and from school daily. Though the weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trek to the elementary school. As the afternoon pro- gressed, the winds whipped up, along with thunder and lightning. The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school and she herself feared that the elec- trical storm might harm her child. Following the roar of thun- der and lightning in the sky, the mother quickly got into her car and drove along the route to her child's school. As she did so, she saw her little girl walking along, but at each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up and smile. Another and an- other were to follow quick- ly, and with each, the little girl would look at the streak of light and smile. When the mother's car drove up beside the child, she lowered the window and called to her. "What are you doing? Why do you keep stopping? " The child answered, "I am trying to look pretty, God keeps taking my picture." May God bless you today as you face the storms that come your way. "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee. He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved" (Psalms 55:22). We invite all of you to come and worship with us.
