Local Working Group meeting set for Sept. 5 SWCD will be having a Local Work- ing Group meeting. It is time to con- vene the Local Working Group for Pike County. The Local Working Group is assigned the task of estab- lishing the local ranking priorities for the 2014 Farm Bill. Local ranking pri- orities are an important component of the overall ranking system for EQIP and CSP applications that are in the running for federal funding. The SWCD value's input from the agricultural community and invites the public to attend the open door meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 6:30 p.m. EDT at the USDA Service Cen- ter Conference Room located at 2101 E. Main Street, Petersburg. NRCS District Conservationist, Travis Go- gel, along with SWCD Chairman, Nor- man Dillon, will lead the Local Work- ing Group meeting. With his help, the goal of the Local Working Group is to: 1. Identify the top ten resource pri- orities in Pike County for both EQ- IP and CSP. 2. Rank those ten resource priori- ties in order of importance. All land owners in Pike County are encouraged to attend. If you cannot make the meeting, but would like to take part then contact the office at the information below to complete a sur- vey in advance. Cassidy, 58, of Monroe City, died at 9:05 p.m. on August 25, 2017, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. He was born on Sep- tember 28, 1958, to George E. and Mary N. (Turnbel) Cassidy. He was retired from the U.S. Army. He is survived by a son, David Lee Cassidy, of Texas; and two daugh- ters, Samantha Cassi- dy and Denisha Stan- ley, both of Monroe City; two brothers, Tim Cassi- dy, of Washington, Ind., and John Cassidy, of Hol- land, Ind.; one sister, Te- resa Cassidy, of South Carolina; and six grand- children. He was preceded in death by his parents. There will be no fu- neral services. Harris Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrange- ments. See more obituaries on page D-6. Caution: Runners and walkers coming through The Heartland Half Marathon and 5K committee are asking anyone driv- ing in and around Jasper on the Sat- urday morning of Labor Day week- end to be on the lookout for road clo- sures and runners and walkers. Use caution and have patience in waiting at intersections if runners are com- ing through. Many of these individ- uals have spent months training for this event. Road closures will begin at 6:30 a.m. to approximately 7:35 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2 and will include Third Avenue from A zura Grill and Café to Mill Street and Mill Street from Third to Ninth Street. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. (EDT) on September 2. The half marathon route begins on the Third Avenue (Patoka Riv- er) bridge, then heads north on Mill Street, west on Ninth Street, south on Main Street, west on Second Street, south on Indiana Street, and crosses Hwy 231 at First Avenue. The route then proceeds south on Truman Road, south on St. Charles Street, west on 12th Avenue, and south on Kimball Boulevard. The route then contin- ues west on 100 South, north on Old Huntingburg Road, west on Division Road, north on Sunshine Drive, east on Shelyn Drive, north on Kluemper Road, east on Andrew Lane, north on St. Charles Street, and east on Northwood Avenue and 30th Street to Cathy Lane. The last section of the route takes the runners south on Cherry Street to 15th Street, where they will enter the Jasper Riverwalk to run through the finish line at Buehler Plaza. Registrations for the races are still being accepted. Registration can be made online at heartlandhalfmara- thon.com or raceroster.com. The reg- istration fee for the half marathon is $70. The 5K registration fee is $25. For the Team Challenge (a group of four running the half marathon as a relay), registration fee is $100 per team. Pre-registrants will receive a technical shirt. Sisters of St. Benedict offer retreat Sept. 8-15 Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand will offer a "Di- rected Retreat" from Sep- tember 8 -15 at the Bene- dictine Hospitality Cen- ter at Kordes Hall on the grounds of Monastery Im- maculate Conception in Ferdinand, Ind. The retreat will provide you the opportunity to fo- cus on your relationship with God, especially your experience of God in prayer and in life's events. Partici- pants will be able to meet six times with a spiritual di- rector. Check-in time begins at 7 p.m. Eastern time on Sept. 8, with the retreat starting at 7:30 p.m. The retreat will end Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. East- ern time.
