Division 2 Best Business Section or Pages/ Category 27 First place Brown County Democrat Section B Sara Clifford, Kevin Lilly & Megan O'Bryan Brown County Democrat (Nashville) Comments: Good writing and good variety of stories. Nice layout. I've never been to Brown County, but I enjoyed reading about their businesses. Second place Local Business Staff The Corydon Democrat Comments: Easy-to-read layout lands this paper. Third place No award given Best Special Section/Category 28 First place This Is Harrison County Staff The Corydon Democrat Comments: We love slick and glossy magazines ... Would definitely be something we'd pick up ... Lots of good information, nice feature stories and photos to break up the "listingtype" items. Definitely the best of the best. Second place Backyard Adventures 2013 Staff The Press-Dispatch (Petersburg) Comments: We are ready to head to Pike and surrounding counties to visit a plethora of festivals and other fun-filled activities and adventures highlighted in this publication, especially the Zoar Mosquito Festival (we can relate!). Nice feature stories compliment the calendar listings. Third place 2013 Brown County 4-H Fair Preview Sara Clifford & Jenna Clossin Brown County Democrat (Nashville) Comments: What a special publication for this event. Nice stories and photos throughout. Informative. Best Community Service/Category 29 First place Brown County Schools' financial trouble Sara Clifford & Megan O'Bryan Brown County Democrat (Nashville) Comments: The continuous coverage of the school district's restructuring reflects what journalism is suppose to do – be the eyes and ears of the public, and inform them, in an unbiased manner, what is happening within their schools and how monies are being spent. Second place Town-county rift Sara Clifford & Kevin Lilly Brown County Democrat (Nashville) Comments: Obviously, had Kevin not acted as the "gobetween" to bring to light what each group was doing, there would have been no communication between these municipal entities. Good, clear reporting resulting in positive action. Third place Brown County Courthouse Renovation Sara Clifford & Kevin Lilly Brown County Democrat (Nashville) Comments: Kevin's ability to dig deeper and bring to light the conflict/miscommunication of the courthouse project allowed the community to give their input. Best Newspaper Design/Category 30 First place Sara Clifford, Jennifer Gaskin & Johannah Pollert Brown County Democrat (Nashville) Comments: Good graphics work. Schools shuffle graphic set this paper apart from the other. Second place Staff The Corydon Democrat Comments: A close second. Good use of pictures and a choice of headline fonts. Third place No award given Page 30
