Second place Praise Patti Blake The Star Press (Muncie) Comments: Almost made this the first-place winner. Love the lighting. Love the shot. Third place Pinewood Kelly Lafferty Kokomo Tribune Comments: Great emotion on all three kids' faces. This shot is a real winner. Best Multiple Picture Group/Category 20 Riddick Rose, 3, and his grandmother, Nancy Clingaman, react to a Lego tower falling as they play with Legos together at the Howard County Library. First place Backyard discovery Andrew Laker The Republic (Columbus) Comments: Excellent photography, a different kind of package for newspapers. Second place Little boy with giant spirit Greg Fallon The Star Press (Muncie) Comments: Good collection of storytelling images. A bumblebee drinks nectar on a boneset plant. The fragrant flowering plant, also known as snakeroot, is toxic to humans. Third place Flood Tim Bath Kokomo Tribune Comments: Good collection of images that told the story from different angles. Best Picture Story with Audio or Video Story/Category 21 First place Antiques in action Kelly Lafferty Kokomo Tribune Comments: This was the most entertaining story. It, like almost all others, was too long and needed more variety of shots. Second place Daleville students show love for Katie Patti Blake The Star Press (Muncie) Comments: Short, sweet and to the point. It let the story tell itself. Third place Minnesota Kelly Lafferty Kokomo Tribune Comments: A bit over-produced, but good material. Again too long, and the split screen got to be annoying after a while. Page 55
