C-6 The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, November 20, 2013 Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance names Martin as new CEO Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance announces that Joseph A. Martin, the company's current chief operating officer (COO) and senior vice president, marketing, has been selected after a nationwide search to serve as its next executive vice president and chief executive officer (CEO) beginning in January 2014. Current CEO Jerry Canada will retire in December 2013 after holding the position for eleven years. Martin has been employed with Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance since 1980 and has also served the companies as senior vice president and chief financial officer; senior vice president, life operations; and senior vice president, corporate services. "The Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Board of Directors was impressed with Joe's extensive experience and success with our companies over the past 33 years," Indiana Farm Bureau President Don Villwock said. "These experiences, along with his track record of helping build effective teams, have prepared him for this important role with the companies." A graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in business, Martin also earned his MBA from Duke University. He holds both the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CFU) designations. "I am very honored and excited that our Board of Directors has chosen me for this opportunity," Martin said. "I look forward to leading our companies along the same path that Jerry Cana- sh da has defined during his 11-year tenure." Martin is active in numerous industry committees and professional organizations. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Farm Bureau Bank, FSB. "Jerry Canada has had a tremendous impact on our companies since taking the helm more than a decade ago," Villwock said. "His hard work and dedication are greatly appreciated and he will leave behind a lasting legacy. We appreciated his service and wish him the best in the future." Canada, originally from Charlotte County, Va., has served as executive vice president and CEO of Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance since Oct. 28, 2002. A graduate of Old Dominion University, he began his insurance career at Virginia Farm Bureau as an agent in 1978. He graduated from the MBA program at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1997. He and his wife plan to return to Virginia to be closer to family. Joseph A. So we decided we had to do something." Why not open a flower shop? That was the start of "Mary L & R Floral Design," on the west side of Highway 57, just south of Petersburg. Some may remember that Mary's late husband, Wesley, used to run a barber shop in the same humble building—one that now blooms with Roger's floral designs. "This building was originally part of Crane military base," Roger said. "When Dad started a barber shop, he bought the building and moved it here. It's been here 58 years." Mary L & R Floral Design offers silk flowers, fresh flowers "for any occasion," glassware, candles, gifts, and wreaths, and much more. Roger Willis designs the goods, and Mary works the shop. Roger and Mary welcome DeeAnna Ingersoll, their newest floral designer. "Floristry is something I wanted to do," said Roger, who taught art for 43 years. "For me, it's an extension of my art, because you use all the disciplines, but you're working in three dimensions instead of two. For example, if I want to make one of these wreaths we have on the wall, you start with the base wreath, which is like a canvas, then add the greenery, then devel- Make RiStSMCalS CH Pe ia ! 113 W.
