C-10 Wednesday, November 20, 2013 The Press-Dispatch Sweet's column By Barbara Sweet Hi stars and welcome to the stage that is brightly lit and decorated for the Thanksgiving season to help celebrate with all our stars who will have a birthday or anniversary in the week of Nov. 21-27. So come on up to the stage and take a bow. Correction: To Donnie Stephens on Nov. 19, I'm very sorry but you are 61 instead of 16. Nov. 21—Allisha Sisk. Nov. 22—James Travis will be 13, Delores Hensley will be 55, John and Sarah Vinnedge will celebrate their second wedding anniversary. Nov. 23—Alicia Braunecker will be 21, Heath Gamble will be 39. Nov. 24—Krystin Lee will be 21, Randy Eugene Anders will be 21, Noah James Virden will be 3. Nov. 25—Alice Halstead, Makaylah Brumfield will be 17, Daniel and Carrie Shelton will celebrate their ninth wedding anniversary. Nov. 26—Elayna Brumfield will be 18, Nancy Warner will be 39, George and Deby Virden will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary, Paul and Alene Poehlein will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. May all our stars have a great day and may all your wishes come true throughout the year to come. Keep in your heart all our stars who are stricken with an illness that keeps them inside their home or a place where help is available to them. Terry Wayne Wheeler is recovering from head surgery and Debbie Meyer is convalescing from her blood pressure. More of our stars are fighting off colds from the change in weather and then the aches and pains of everyday living through the years. May a visit, car, or phone call be a helpful aid. Winslow Senior Citizens meet at the Community Center on Monday and Tuesday. Petersburg Senior Citizens meet in the courthouse basement on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. No postcards this week! Vernon and I went out to eat at a Greek restaurant, where we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and food. Winslow and Sweets Column welcome a new family that moved here from Gibson County: T.M. and Kristie and three-year-old Damien. Lots of remodeling is taking place in Winslow be- sides the cabin—Wayne has been working on his house and hopes to move in before too much longer, and the old McCord Ford building has been gutted and a new roof of tin is being applied. Thanksgiving decorations are dotted around the area, but the Christmas decorations have been turned on early and it's not time to rush Christmas. We should enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday first, then turn the lights on for Christmas after we give thanks. Aren't all the holidays worth enjoyment? This is Sunday as I write the column and the sounds of a tornado watch is in the area with rain that has continued from overnight with strong winds and the temperature is 72 degrees, but the week's temps will go back into the 50s. My guess is Thanksgiving will be cold and windy. How is the raking of those leaves going? Ours are still on the ground, but a few, a very few, have been raked and burned along with some limbs that fell from the leafless trees. As the lights begin to dim for this week, keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and enjoy life, watch out for deer, it's hunting season and always smile, wave and say "hi" to everyone this week and make it a better week for all of us. Lions donate dictionaries to PES The Petersburg Lions Club donated dictionaries to all the third grade students at Petersburg Elementary School last week. Lions Club members John Burns, Cal Biddle, Lowell Thomas and Erica Thomas made the presentation. Above: Suzie Burton's third grade class members are shown with their new dictionaries and Lions Club members. Below: Erica Thomas hands out the dictionaries to third grade students. Memorial Hosp. ranked among America's best hospitals for women Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center has received the 2014 Women's Choice Award® ranking among America's Best Hospitals for Patient Experience in Obstetrics. The distinction is the only award that identifies the country's best health care institutions based on robust criteria that consider female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence, and what women say they want from a hospital, including quality physician communications, responsiveness of nurses and support staff, cleanliness and trusted referrals from other women. "We are honored to be recognized by WomenCertified® with the Women's Certified Award®for the high quality obstetric care we provide to our patients. We are thankful for our physicians, nurses, and staff who partner with us as we strive to provide excellent care to the communities we serve," said Kyle Bennett, Chief Operating Officer for Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. Awarded hospitals must provide comprehensive obstetric services and meet criteria for patient satisfaction and surgical excellence based on female needs and preferences. Learn about photo editing at OC Library What do you do with all those photos sitting on your digital camera or phone? How do you get them off the phone? Learn that and much more about photo editing at the Oakland City-Columbia Twp. Public Library Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. Special instructor, John Buyher, will provide an overview of Google's Picasa, a free photo-editing software. Can you fix the red eyes? Crop out the person who photo bombed an otherwise great picture? Space is limited and reservations are required. Depending on interest, this class may turn into a series for beginner photographers.
