Gun season causes havoc on the highways By Andy Heuring The first week of gun deer season caused havoc on Pike County highways. Deer season in Indiana opened Saturday morning and with the hunters in the woods, it must have had the deer on the move because there were three car-deer accidents on Saturday and three on Sunday, as well as one on Wednesday last week in Pike County. Saturday at 6:02 a.m., Scott A. Macken, 51, of Evansville, was driving his Ford 150 north on Highway 61 when he hit a deer near CR 800 S., according to Deputy Dallas Killian. It caused minor damage to Macken's truck. Two hours later, Melvin B. Patton, 49, no address listed, hit a deer on Highway 257 near CR 400 N. Deputy Brad Jenkins said Patton was driving south on 257 when the deer ran in front of his 2006 Chevrolet, causing front end damage requiring the truck to be towed. Patton was not injured.
