She had little support in the way of family, and recovery became her family. "A fter seven-and-a-half years of sobriety, it meant a lot to me to do this because this type of living saved my life," she said. "I believe in this with my whole heart. I'm grateful to give other people the same opportunity I was given with- out having to go to jail to get it. People do recover. You would be surprised the number of people walking around this community with long-term sobriety. That's when the stigma begins to end." The community donates hygiene items, twin sheets, pillows and monetary dona- tions for the facility, which can be left with Portside Coffee Company. Donations will go toward buying the building and the $25,000 estimated cost to add showers on the property. Anyone who can donate time or materials to the shower project is encouraged to reach out. The house will be named after Stephanie Bishop, a woman whose tireless volun- teerism and testimony about how a women's house helped her made organizers realize it was time to find a second loca- tion. "When we walked in, there was something about it...I got goose bumps," Hannel said. Bishop drove past the prop- erty at night, and while she'd seen it before, she saw it with new eyes, hearing it would be the new recovery house. She saw it as a shining castle. "It's an honor," she said of having the home named for her. "I knew from the time I got clean and sober this is what I would do, I would help other people...If they can't help in any other way, they can pray for us. Pray for our success and our leadership to continue to fight this fight, to fight for the lost souls out there."
