Poplar Street, Petersburg "Whatever happened to Randolph Scott? " Scott was a little before my time. How- ever, to millions of his fans during the 1920 - 60s, he is best known as the ideal tall-in-the- saddle Western hero. Scott was a western hero long before John Wayne. Kids loved to watch him in the Saturday matinees along with oth- er stars such as Smiley Burnette, Tom Mix, Tim Holt, Johnny Mack Brown, Alan Rocky Lane, Durango Kid, and the singing cowboys Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. Whatever happened to Randolph Scott is a song written by the Statler Brothers in 1975. It laments the decline of westerns and the rise of more 'adult' themed films that took their place. "Everybody knows when you go to the show. You can't take the kids along. You've gotta read the paper and know the code of G, PG and R and X. You gotta know what the movie's about before you even go. Tex Ritter's gone and Dis- ney's dead the screen is filled with sex." What has happened in the ensuing 47 years? Florida recently passed a "Parental Rights in Education" bill. This new law prohibits teach- ers in public schools from talking to their stu- dents about sex and gender identities for stu- dents in K-3rd grade. Opponents of the bill characterize it as the "Don't say gay" bill. However, news outlets report many in the LGBTQ community support the bill and DO NOT agree with sexualizing kids. They take offense to being cooped into this tug of war. A fter the Florida governor signed the bill in- to law, all heck broke loose. The Magic King- dom jumped from the heat into the frying pan. Disney's CEO released a statement saying Dis- ney pledges to help fight the law. Hello, readers hoping you are having as good a week as possible. This past week has been a fair week for us. We wereable to get the reschedduled doctor appointments out of the way. It takes awhile to get everything do- ne that are involved with these appointments. Glad they only come around every six months. At least the doctor said my numbers in the test results are looking better. I am glad we are still aiding Ukraine with weapons to defend themselves, even though Putin seems to want to fight with us with all the saber rattling he has been doing. If we would happen to fight with Russia it would be as bad on them as it would be on us. I believe we are better eqipped, but there would be lots of ca- sulities just because one nation's leader has vi- sions of controlling the world. Our event at our General Baptist church campground at Camp Arthur was a success even though we had 21 people in attendance. Dr. Jim Pratt gave a message concerning the mission field. Kristi Murphy gave a lesson on teaching children.Nobel Boger talked about teaching teens and Gene Koker talked about teaching adults. We had a delicious meal ca- tered in by a local caterer. A fter there was mu- sic from three individuals from the participat- ing churches. We were done with all our list- ed agenda by 2 p.m. Of course old forgetful me forgot and left my notebook full of songs on a "And to know the love of Christ, which pass- eth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God." — Ephesians 3:19 The passage before us is a treasure chest of truth. Paul contrasts the spiritual knowl- edge of the believer ("to know"), with human knowledge ("passeth knowledge"). We are liv- ing in a time when a high premium has been placed on intellectualism. Technology is ad- vancing so rapidly that a product is barely to the marketplace before it is obsolete. Human knowledge has progressed to the point where man has now created small micro chips, the size of a pencil eraser, that can store volumes of information. While man glories in his ac- complishments in the area of high tech, God is still the infinite One in knowledge overall. I read recently that if man were to build a com- puter capable of performing the functions of the human brain (memory, reasoning, think- ing, functional control, etc.) it would have to be the size of the Empire State Building. How would you like to carry that around on your shoulders? While human knowledge has ben- efited us all in areas of medicine, science, and travel, man through human wisdom can never know God nor understand the things of God (I The church page is made possible by the following firms and businesses: Amber Manor Care Center Petersburg — 812-354-3001 Benner & Co. "This is my prayer; that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blame- less for the day of Christ" (Phi- lippians 1:9,10 NIV ). We hear over and over that God loves us, but sometimes it just takes time or a personal revelation to really understand the depth of his love. The Bi- ble says that God is love that therefore the more we under- stand our God, the more we understand his love. We are grateful to the Pike Central Swing Choir for their inspiring performance this past Sunday evening. We have many on our prayer list who are in need of God's healing touch. We pray for healing, peace and that each need be met and we thank God for answered prayer. We invite you to join us. Ralph Newkirk, Pastor Marla Morrison, Reporter AYRSHIRE VALLEY G.B. CHURCH 1947 E. "The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth" (Psalm 145:18). Think of the things you do not worry about. Perhaps you never worry about whether you will be able to get water out of the faucet in your kitch- en, or maybe you do not wor- ry about a tree falling on your house. You may be a worrier by nature, but even the worst wor- rier in the world doesn't wor- ry about some things. Now ask yourself why you do not worry about such things. Is it because, in the case of run- ning water, it has always been there when you wanted it? Or that a tree has never fallen on your house before? Certainty breeds trust. We can be just as certain and just as worry free about God's love and protection. What is the evidence? It is the cross where God fully ex- pressed His love for us. The Bi- ble says "He who did not spare His own son, but gave up for us all- -how will He not also, along with Him graciously give us all things" (Romans 8:32)? His love is certain. He has never gone back on a single promise, and He never will. Jerry "Tuffy" Blackwell, Pastor Sharon Kendall, Reporter BIBLE BAPTIST CHURCH An Independent Baptist Church 4995 N. Co. Rd. 850 E.
