We all feel it. In Pike County, we are also faced with challenges of a changing coal-based, power plant-driven economy. As we lose much of that traditional revenue, it is important now more than ever that our Pike County government spends your money wisely. In my experience on the council, as mayor and business owner, I understand the principles of working within our budget, making payroll and creating an environment friendly to growth. I am asking for your vote to remain on the county council during these challenging times ahead. Sincerely, Randy Harris, Pike County Council District One If you or someone you know needs to requested an absentee ballot, please call or email Randy. 812-380-1065 | Randy@HarrisRealEstate.us By Andy Heuring Chloe Williams pitched a no-hitter and the Chargers bats bombed 17 runs in four innings as Pike Central soft- ball won 17-0 in a 10 -run rule game last Thursday. The first inning was a har- binger of things to come. Wil- liams blew away the Warrior hittings in the first inning as she struck out the side. "That really set the tone for us," said Charger Coach Dustin Tray- lor. Then the Lady Charger bats went to work. Brailey Mills led off with a single; Karley Kavanaugh hit a triple and scored on a throwing error making it 2- 0. Williams helped herself out, hitting a single past the shortstop. Sophie Carnah- an reached on a error. Alyan Sharp hit a single to bring in Williams. Avery Hunt was hit by a pitch, which allowed Macey Stillwell, who was running for Williams, to score. Delany Welch hit a ground ball that was fielded, but the throw to second for a force out was bobbled. It allowed Sharp and Carnahan to score. Mills got a two out walk to load the bases, and Kavanaugh then drew a walk to bring in Hunt for a 6 -0 lead. "We came in from the field and started hitting the ball right away, sending 12 bat- ters to the plate and scoring six runs in the bottom of the first," said Traylor. Williams had another three up and three down inning in the second. Sharp then pounded her sixth home run of the game over the flag pole in center field for the Chargers only run in the second inning. Williams again struck out the side one, two and three in the third. Tessa Vinnedge led off with a single, to start another six run inning. Mills was hit by a pitch. Kavanaugh singled to drive in Vinnedge; Williams then singled bringing in both Mills and Kavanaugh. Carnahan singled to right field. Carnahan stole second before Sharp singled, driv- ing in Stillwell and advancing Carnahan to third. Sharp stole second base to get in scoring position. Hut then hit a ground ball and reached base on an error that allowed both Sharp and Carnahan to score making it 13-0. North Knox got a runner to second base for the only time in the game after an error and a sacrifice bunt. But Williams shutdown the Warriors by get- ting a pop-up to herself and a ground ball to third to end the inning. In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Chargers added an- other four runs after Mills led off with a double, Kavanaugh walked and Williams drove in Mills with a single. Carnahan grounded out to third base, but it allowed Ka- vanaugh to score. Sharp extended the in- ning with a ground ball that was misplayed, allowing her to reach on an error. Hunt walked to load the bases, be- fore Welch hit a grounder to third. The third baseman tried Chloe Williams is all smiles between innings as she and her teammates get ready to return to the field.
