The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, April 20, 2022 D-5 PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the TIMMY "Cats can work out math- ematically the exact place to sit that will cause most inconvenience"—Pam Brown. This week PAWS is fea- turing a conniving young feline named Timmy, who is always looking for mis- chief to get into and usual- ly finds it. He is all over the office at PAWS and loves it when visitors stop to sit and talk awhile. Timmy likes to visit and beg for pets from anyone who takes time to notice him. He is a short haired tabby with lush silver/blue fur. He can be adopted by calling 812-354-9894. the truck. Have you ever thought that things only happen to the oth- er guys? Have you ever given any thought to the fact that as time moves foreard and things happen you are always get- ting closer and closer to be- ing the other guy? Please be careful and watch out for oth- ers so you don't take for grant- ed what you have or what you can do. What we have and what we can do can be taken away quickly. I have admiration for the weather folks. They predict what may come by what they see and read from their charts and tests. They sometimes miss their predictions be- cause weather changes rap- idly. So what would have oc- cured just awhile ago will not happen now. It makes some people think they are just yell- ing wolf, but never fail to pay heed to their warnings. The second you just pay it with thoughts, you might become one of the other guys. I would like to say some- thing about the fight or flight reaction in our bodies and what could possibly be why we are seeing more and more bad police stories. I may be a bit off base with this, but I would like to tell you a story about some police several years ago as they were chasing a man driving on Highway 41. This man had stayed ahead of them for several miles near the Princeton exits. Somehow this man drove onto the prop- erty belonging to the Prince- ton Farm Bureau and that is where all the police chasing him caught him. I was told this story by a friend who was working there at the time. He said as they got the man out of the car they each took a swat at him. Now I don't know this for sure but I have heard that a chemical in our bodies called adrena- line and it can cause adverse reactions. Perhaps a national study on this might be helpful in eliminating some bad cop situations Well as always, I ask you to do what you can do to bring blessings to everyone. RAMBLINGS Continued from page 3 POINTS Continued from page 3 They demanded, "Command therefore that the sepulcher be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. Pilate said un- to them, You have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. So they went, and made the sepulcher sure, sealing the stone, and set- ting a watch." (Mt 27:62-66). The religious authority's request for Pilate to secure the tomb would play right in- to God's hands. No guard, no "official seal," no eyewitness to the resurrection. Case closed. Any breach of secu- rity during their watch would be their execution. A band of Roman guards would be un- impeachable eyewitnesses! Three days later, short- ly before daybreak, without warning, there was a great earthquake. An angel of the Lord came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. Those Roman sol- diers on watch shook with terror and "became as dead men" (they fainted). When revived, they fled the scene in panic. Did they go tell Pi- late? No! They fled to the chief priests and told them what had happened. Jerusalem would erupt in a firestorm if these Ro- man "eyewitnesses" testi- fied what they witnessed— Jesus indeed had risen from the dead (50 days later on the day of Pentecost, a firestorm would erupt as the Holy Spir- it fell). The religious authori- ties were in a quandary. How could they squelch eyewit- ness testimony? Money and lots of it! The religious authorities hatched a plan to suppress this incident. They bribed the soldiers with enormous sums of money from God's treasury to lie. If anyone should ask, they were to say, "His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. And if this news comes to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and se- cure you." (Mt 28:1-15). This was a preposterous plan, but it was the best they could come up with. No doubt this astonish- ing story made it to Pilate's ears. Strangely, he did not question the soldiers as to the validity of this fantastic story circulating around Je- rusalem of their sleeping on duty while his disciples stole his body. Judge Judy claims to have a sixth sense for detect- ing "fibbers" as she is fond of calling them. She takes great satisfaction in expos- ing "fibbers" and seeing them squirm. Wouldn't she have a "good time" question- ing the Roman soldiers un- der oath? Jewish history reports that as late as the 2nd century AD, Jews were still proclaim- ing that Jesus' disciples stole his body (fake news lives)! Jesus first appeared to the women at the tomb. Then two disciples on the road to Emmaus. A fterward, the re- maining apostles. Most cru- cially, "over five hundred peo- ple saw Jesus at one time; of whom most are still alive, but some have since died." 1Co 15:6. Paul wrote these words about 20 years after the res- urrection and ascension of Jesus. There were still near- ly 500 people giving eyewit- ness testimony to the resur- rection of Jesus Christ! Two-thousand years later, people are still giving direct testimony of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul did not see the resur- rected Christ until he met him on the Road to Damas- cus. Paul writes of this en- counter, "and that he final- ly presented himself alive to me." 1Co 15:8. He places his testimony as the last one to see Christ. Is Paul truly the last disci- ple to see Jesus, or is there more? What about you? Can you give testimony to the resur- rected Christ? "You ask me how I know He lives; He lives within my heart! " Happy Easter! Pentecostal Pentecostal Nazarene Presbyterian Wesleyan Methodist that an entire generation, except for Joshua and Caleb, perished without seeing the Promised Land. Paul refers to this in 1 Corinthians 10 :10 warning the believers: "Nei- ther murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the de- stroyer." Complaining is a danger- ous, negative habit. It embit- ters the soul, sours the spir- it, ignores the rich blessings of God, and robs one of the joy of life. It also unnecessar- ily makes life miserable for those around us, becomes a poor testimony to the lost, and poisons our outlook on life. Perhaps, worst of all, it spreads like an outbreak of the flu to others, who, in turn, mirror this negativity. Simply put, God hates a complaining spirit. Paul warns the saints at Philippi saying, "Do all things with- out murmurings and disput- ings: that ye may be blame- less and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked…na- tion, among whom ye shine as lights in the world" (Phi- lippians 2:14-15). It is not pos- sible for us to be blameless before the Lord nor man if we have a complaining spir- it. Ask someone today to hold you accountable any time you are being negative, then pur- posely practice being posi- tive in your speech and out- look. Moather with a Mission Catherine Booth, wife of Salvation Army founder Wil- liam Booth, was said to have read the Bible through eight times before age 12. In 1855, she married William, a Meth- odist minister, keeping the wedding simple so more mon- ey could go toward ministry. Breaking with tradition, Catherine became active in the church, speaking in meet- ings and giving public tes- timony. While raising eight children, she raised funds for her work, which included helping alcoholics get their lives on track. Upon her death, this "Moth- er of the Salvation Army" re- ceived high praise from her husband. "To me she has been made of God, never-fail- ing sympathy, reliable wis- dom and unvarnished truth," said William Booth. Too Blessed to be Stressed When life gets overwhelm- ing, we tend to forget the blessings in our life. With the kid's different extracurricu- lar activities, marriage or re- lationship problems, and jug- gling our finances it can be difficult to not be incredibly stressed out. The last thing on our minds is feeling bless- ed when we have five minutes to get to our next meeting. However, when we let this stress rule over our lives we forget to appreciate the small things. We might forget to say thank you to a coworker who went above and beyond, or drop the ball on communi- cation in our relationship with God. Over time, we lose the gratitude and appreciation we have for the blessings in our life. The smallest things in our life are usually the most im- portant. When we don't waste our time complaining and being stressed over trivial things, we are able to better connect with God and see His many blessings. There is no reason to stress out, because the blessings the Lord has giv- en you triumph over them. We invite all of you to come and worship with us.
