D-6 Wednesday, April 20, 2022 The Press-Dispatch Patoka Valley Quilt Guild April meeting The April meeting of the Patoka Valley Quilt Guild was Tuesday, April 5, in the Mobel Room of the Ferdinand Com- munity Center with President Melissa Ruschau presiding. The treasurer's report was given and approved. Sherri Hilgeman's report for Education included a sta- tus report for Heritage Days and Open Sewing dates of April 21-23, May 12-14, and June 16 -18. Becky Fuller's report included that the May program will be mini-yard sales with members bring- ing their own items and their own change, and there will be a Sew Along beginning with cutting 85 three-inch squares for the next meeting. The fin- ished quilt size will be 75x75 inches. Judy Reese reported 28 members and two guests present. It was announced that the New mailing address is P.O. Box 237, Ferdinand, IN 47532. Member birthdays were announced, and a report on Special Projects was giv- en. Nancy Merkel reported on the next retreat, which will be July 19 -21 at St. Meinrad. Reg- istration forms will be avail- able at the next meeting. A fter Show and Tell, mem- bers showed something they had made from scraps. The participation prize was won by Jane Heichelbech. The next meeting of the Guild will be Tuesday, May 3, at 7 p.m. in the Ferdinand Community Center. New members are al- ways welcome. Harvey serves as Page for Senator Messmer Isaiah Harvey, sixth grade student at Pike Cen- tral Middle School was selected to serve as a Page for a day for Senator Mark Messmer. Messmer is the speaker of the House and is from Jasper. Harvey spent the day in Indianapolis and partici- pated in a mock bill exercise, toured the state capi- tol building and spent time with the Senator and oth- er students from all over the state. He hopes to serve as a page again in the future. He is the son of Kenny and Tiffany Harvey. Scouts help with Tenebrae service Cub Scouts Xavi- er Mason and Mylz Modesitt and Boy Scouts Tyler Mason and Ayden Young helped with a Tene- brae service at the First United Method- ist Church in Peters- burg last Sunday. The Tenebrae service re- members the somber final events of Jesus's life from when he exu- berantly entered Jeru- salem on Palm Sun- day to the night of his burial in the tomb on Food Friday. Pike Central Greenhouse starts sale Wednesday The Pike Central High School Greenhouse has scheduled their first official sale this Wednesday, April 20. They are open to the public at Sunrise. Sale hours are from sun up to sun down, seven days a week until sold out. Enter the greenhouse through the west door. Feel free to park along the curb in front of the greenhouse and watch your step walking through the grass, as well as, in the greenhouse. It can be slick in there. If you want a hanging basket that is missing a wire hanger, there are some wires hanging in the east end of the greenhouse. There are also two black carts for shopping, and piles of cardboard trays in the green- house for you to take as needed. As always, emp- ty trays and pots of any kind are appreciated at any time. Pike Central High School Greenhouses are utilized every school year by stu- dents in Horticulture, Landscaping, Plant Science and APST classes. Wells wins at Easter Egg hunt at Hornady Park Justus Wells, with her Mom, Cheyanne DeJarnett, attended the Easter Egg hunt at Hornady Park on Saturday, April 9.
