Pike Central's number one singles player Ella McGuire won her match with Reagan Knepp 7-5, 6 -3. At number two doubles Ja- mie Sallee lost a hard-fought three set match. She lost 6 -2 in the opening set but came back to win the second set 7-5 be- fore falling 6 -0 in the third set. Shelby Keeker, playing at number three singles instead of doubles, lost a close match. She was beaten by Emma Sar- gent 6 -4, 7-5. In doubles Alaina Johnson and Lilian Mann at number one doubles lost 7-5, 6 -0. The number two doubles team of Gabby Collins and Eibhlin Teague fell to Austyn Miller and Meah Dalrympka in three sets. They lost the first set 6 -2 but rebounded to take the second set 6 -4 before dropping the third set 6 -3. " It was a very close and competitive match, one that really could have gone either way. We lost a couple of three setters, and that is just some- thing we're going to have be better at mentally. In three setters this season, we have been coming up on the short end too often," said Charger coach Brent Beck of his young team that has no seniors. Lady Chargers fall to Heritage Hills in heart-breaker By Andy Heuring Pike Central's softball team lost a heart-breaker to Heritage Hills in the bottom of the seventh inning, 3-2 on Monday night. The Chargers knew going in it would be a tough game. Heritage Hills was 7-2 and 2-0 in the PAC on the season. Pike Central jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Lexie Onyett led off the inning with a triple when she pounded an 0 -2 pitch to center field. Brailey Mills followed with an eight-pitch walk. Karley Kavanaugh hit a ground ball to second base that scored On- yett from third and advanced Mills to third base. Chloe Williams hit a drive to right field for a single to score Mills and the Chargers took a 2-0 lead. Williams dominated from the mound through the first five innings. She never allowed more than four bat- ters until the sixth. "Chloe Williams pitched a great game. She didn't give up a hit until the sixth inning," said Charger Coach Dustin Traylor. This performance comes after she threw a no-hitter against North Knox on Thursday. She pitched six and a third innings, strik- ing out four and allowing four hits. Heritage Hills got one run in the sixth inning, when Rylie Schipp hit a two-out single. She scored on a line drive to center field by Sarah Day be- fore Williams got a ground ball back to the mound to end the inning. Pike Central threatened in the top of the seventh. Onyett singled with one out, then Mills drew a walk. Ka- vanaugh hit a hard ground ball to sec- ond, which advanced Onyett to third, but Mills was out at second. Williams hit a ball hard to center field that would have scored at least one runner, but it was caught. Heritage Hills got their first batter Rylie Schipp on base when she was hit by a pitch. Schipp then stole second. Keigel hit a fly to left field that was caught by Alyna Sharp for the first out. Emma Day singled to center field and took second on the throw. Schipp went to third. Williams then walked Miriam Gor- don to load the bases. Mayci Litherland hit a walk off sin- gle that scored two runs and ended the game. "We got on the board early with two runs and held the lead until the bot- tom of the seventh. Heritage Hills is a solid team, but I felt like we let one slip away from us there," said Traylor. Lady Chargers fall to Rangers tennis By Andy Heuring Pike Central's tennis team fell 5 -0 to a strong Forest Park squad Monday night. Jaime Sallee at number two singles won the first set of her match with Kenzie Shulz 7-6, then lost 6 -2 in the second to set up a 10 point tiebreak- er while Shulz edged her out 10 -8. At number one singles, Brooke Haug beat the Char- gers Ella McGuire 6 -0, 6 -0 while number three singles Gabby Collins fell 6 -2, 6 -0 to Ali Wahl. In doubles play, Reagan Craig and Shelby Keeker lost 7-6 in the first set then 6 -3 in the second. Eibhlin Teague and Lil- ian Mann fell 6 -0, 6 -0 to Amy Wahl and Avori Schneider. to go home, but Stillwell beat the throw to score. The final run was scored when Madelyn Fiscus hit a grounder to third and reach by error driving in Sharp for a 17-0 lead. Golf team struggles on cold, wet course By Andy Heuring Pike Central's young golf team struggled with wet course on a cold windy day, as they lost 191 to 176 to a strong Heritage Hills team. The Chargers do not have a senior on the team. All four players were 50 or less. Sophomore Arri McDon- ald led the way for the Char- gers, with a 46. One stroke back, was a quickly improving Petyon Howald with a 47. Co- bey McKinney shot a 48, and Arie O'Neal a 50, to make up the Chargers 191. Nolan Nel- son had a 51.
