Deaconess Gibson has re- cently raised rent at their current location to $24,000 per year, up from their long $ 6,000 per year contract. The Gibson County Fair- grounds voted to sell a portion of their property for $125,000. Citizen Cecil "Bob" Al- len told commissioners they should negotiate that price since the fairgrounds has re- ceived county money in the past. The new headquarters would have four bays. "I realize this design is Da- vid's (Pond's) wish list," said Commissioner Mary Key. "The TIF money is needed for what TIF money is meant for. And I believe the county has money and possible options we don't know about." The project did not move on to TIF financing. Commis- sioners will continue to con- sider the project. Stormwater ordinance passes By Janice Barniak SG Star-Times Editor editor@sgstartimes.com A fter 14 years, the Gib- son County stormwater or- dinance passed unanimous- ly with caveats for a few lan- guage changes. "In 14 years, I haven't heard anyone not in favor of it," said Gary Seibert who presented the ordinance. Commissioners previous- ly asked him to revise fees they felt would "hurt the little guy," instead only requiring commercial and subdivision developments to do stormwa- ter control. Single residences would be exempt. Haubstadt PD plans training By Janice Barniak SG Star-Times Editor editor@sgstartimes.com Haubstadt Police Dept. was approved by the town coun- cil to train two officers at an active shooter conference in Evansville at a cost of $400 per person. The training is June 5 -8, and most of the presenters have been in officer involved shootings, including the lead squad officer in the Orlando nightclub shooting. Because it's in Evansville, officers will not have room and board ex- penses. The council also approved $480 in equipment during their April 4 meeting. Library hosts barrier reef program The Oakland City - Colum- bia Township Public Library has partnered with the edu- cators from the marine ex- perts from the Great Barri- er Reef Marine Park Authori- ty in Australia to present "An Introduction to the Great Bar- rier Reef." The program will be held April 21st at 6 p.m. The educators will discuss, with the aid of recorded vid- eo and images, the Great Bar- rier Reef and coral reef eco- systems. This program is unique in that attendees will have a private audience with educa- tors on the other side of the world and are able to ask spe- cific questions. Attendees will learn about corals as the building blocks of the Reef and the role that various or- ganisms play within the Reef community, the main threats facing the Great Barrier Reef and explore the simple actions and behaviors that can be ad- opted by everyone, regardless of where they live in the world, to help protect the Great Bar- rier Reef and the animals that call it home. Attendees may join the in-person group meeting at the library or online using Zoom, but must register for either option by calling the li- brary at 812-749 -3559 or mes- saging the library Facebook page.
