Send the details to editor@sgstartimes.com BRIEFLY Slow down on First Street Locals are asking that people slow down on First Street in Owensville where the speed limit is 20 mph. People are apparent- ly going much faster and a lot of children live in the area. The town council was asked to consider a four-way stop. THIS WEEK Solid Waste Management special session The Gibson County Solid Waste Manage- ment District is calling a Special Session Meeting for Tuesday, April 12 at 8 a.m. to be held in the Princeton Trash and Recycle Center Conference Room. The topic of dis- cussion will be proposed changes and up- dates to the Union Contract Agreement with Teamsters Local 215. This meeting is open to the public. Reminder that our Regular Board Meet- ing scheduled dates are as follows: April 25, May 23, June 27, July 25, August 22, Septem- ber 26, October 24, November 28 and De- cember 19. All of these scheduled meetings are for 8:00 a.m. in the Princeton Trash and Recycle Center Conference Room. GGH Geranium sales set Gibson General Hospital Auxiliary's pink ladies will sell geraniums from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 11-12, at the Princeton Public Li- brary's main entrance. Cost is $5 each. Hydrant flushing extended in Owensville Due to scheduling conflicts, testing and flushing of the fire hydrants in Owensville will be extended through April 15. Residents are advised that there may be water discol- oration or low water pressure during this time. Trustees meet The Board of Trustees for the Oakland City-Columbia Township Public Library will meet at 4 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month as the dates for their regular monthly board meetings. The meetings are held in the Library Meeting Room. Merit board meets The 2022 meetings of the Gibson County Sheriff's Merit Board will be at 12:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of every month in the Gibson County Community Corrections Conference Room, located at 112 E. Emer- son Street, Princeton. First Eclipse meeting April 12 The first meeting to plan tourism events during the 2024 eclipse will be 5 p.m. April 12 (this year) at Princeton Public Library. Princeton area will see four minutes of to- tality during the eclipse. Locals want to make this a large tourism event by scheduling attractions around the event. Pike-Gibson retired teachers spring meeting is April 14 The retired teachers of Pike and Gibson County will hold their spring meeting on Thursday, April 14 at the Village Inn at 11:30 a.m., Eastern time, with a meal served at noon and program to follow. Easter hunt planned Rosemeyer Agency is sponsoring the an- nual Easter egg hunt in Fort Branch Com- munity Park on April 16. THIS MONTH Owensville Color Run 5K Owensville Community Planners will host a fun 5K color run and kids run on April 16. Kids' run starts at 9 a.m., the 5K starts at 9:30 a.m. Registration forms may be found on the group's Facebook page, or may be picked up at Owensville Town Hall or the Owens- ville Carnegie Library. Forms had to be re- turned by March 25 to guarantee a t-shirt. Late registration the morning of the event will be at the band stand on the library lawn. Fort Branch Kindergarten registration Fort Branch Community School will have Kindergarten registration on Tuesday, April 19 from 3:45 to 6:30 p.m., at the FBCS of- fice. Children must be five years of age on our before Aug. 1, 2022 to start kindergar- ten for the 2022-2023 school year. Parents should bring the child's certified birth certificate, immunization records and proof of Indiana residency. The child is required to attend, as all stu- dents will be given a readiness assessment during registration. For more information, call 812-753-3641 during school hours. Easter Egg Hunt in Owensville Owensville Community Planners will sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt on the library lawn on Saturday, April 16. The special needs hunt group will begin at noon with all other groups beginning at 1 p.m. Age groups include newborn to three, four to six, seven to nine, and 10 to 12. The Easter Bunny will be there for pic- tures. Groundbreaking set The county and Chamber of Commerce will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new probation building south of the jail at 5 p.m. April 20. Everyone is welcome to attend. Executive session planned The Owensville Town Council plans an executive session at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, discussing ordinances, trash and em- ployees. Dementia-friendly community session slated for April 20 The Oakland City-Columbia Township Public Library is partnering with SWIRCA to host an informational session on becom- ing more dementia friendly in our commu- nities. The session is geared towards busi- ness, church, and others who may cross paths with the one in 10 older adults who have some stage of dementia. The session will be held Wednesday, April 20 at 10 a.m. CDT in the library meeting room. Anyone wishing to attend, should call the library at 812-749 -3559 to reserve their seat. Aaron Fischer celebrated Locals will celebrate Lyles Station World War I military hero Aaron Fischer with a marker dedication at 1 p.m. April 30. Yarn Store Day celebrated Local Yarn Store Day will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 30, at Little House of Yarn, and is designed to show support for small busi- nesses while bringing together a unique community of knitters, crocheters, weav- ers and spinners to drive awareness and cel- ebrate the craft. Three local dyers will display yarn, in- cluding Fiber Owl Yarn Company's Mickey Horton, who will do a meet and greet. There will be knit and crochet kits, door prizes and demonstrations of a yarn craft, with the op- portunity to participate. MAY EVENTS Vine Street Makers Market returns Vine Street Makers Market in Fort Branch, returns to Fort Branch from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, and Saturday, Oct. 1. ELPERS Bernard W. Elpers, 79, of Haubstadt, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022, at Transcendent Health Care, in Owensville. He was born to the late Jo- seph and Marianna (Martin) Elpers on January 23, 1943, in Evansville. He was a member of Sts. Pe- ter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt. He graduat- ed from Mater Dei High School. He served in the Na- tional Guard for six years and worked as a cable repairman for AT&T. He enjoyed drag racing, working on race cars, and watching his grandchil- dren in their various sports and activities. He was a mem- ber of the OBC Boat Club and Rock Steady Boxing. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Aline (Kie- sel) Elpers; children, Pam (Greg) Fox and Jason (Stacy) Elpers, both of Fort Branch; siblings, Kathleen (Donnie) Will, Eileen ( Jack) Rausch, Teresa (Chuck) Roberts, Car- ol ( Wesley) Ham, Rick (Pau- line) Elpers, Eugene (Carol) Elpers, and John (Lori) Elp- ers, all of Evansville; grand- children, Kyleigh (Chris) Bradshaw, Kyndall Fox, Kendra Elpers, and Devyn (Krimson) Bailey; and six great-grandchildren. R AY DEAN BRYANT Ray Dean Bryant, 89, of Fort Branch, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at North River Health Campus, in Evansville. He was born to the late Nel- son and Isabelle (Satterfield) Bryant on November 6, 1932, in Omaha, Ill. He was a member of the Bethel Memorial Church in Princeton. He worked for the United States Department of Agriculture as a federal meat inspector for 37 years. As a young man, he joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He was deployed to Japan. He was a Past President, Past Vice President, and Board Member for the Pike County Bird Hunter's Club. He is survived by his lov- ing wife of 68 years, De- lores ( Johnson) Bryant, of Fort Branch; children, De- nise (George) Swegles, of Brownstown, Donna ( Jon) Neufelder, of Poseyville, Dawanna Bryant, of Scott- sdale, Ariz., Darren (Debi) Bryant, of Brownstown, and Daphne Bryant, of Zionsville; grandchildren, Ryan (Na- talie) Neufelder, Aaron ( Jes- sica) Neufelder, Jessica Bry- ant, Jamie (Griffin) Koester, Kelsey Heflin, and Olivia Hurm; and 7 great-grand- children. C. He was born to the late Dar- win W. and Avalon (Reynolds) Graper, on February 4, 1938, in Evansville. He was a member of Sts. Pe- ter and Paul Catholic Church, in Haubstadt. He graduated from Cynthiana High School in 1956 and married the love of his life, MaryAnn Hoefling on October 18, 1958. He re- tired from Emge Meat Pack- ing, in Fort Branch where he worked as a foreman. He was a lifelong golfer, loved line-dancing, and card play- ing. He liked to play Clabber with friends and family and had no problem winning all his friend's money in Poker. He is survived by his chil- dren, Tim Graper, of Garner, N.C., Mike (Alma) Graper, of Fort Branch, Greg (Sandy) Graper, of Simi Valley, Ca- lif., and Jeff (Mindy) Grap- er, of Evansville; siblings, Sandra Staley, of Evansville, Dixie Akers, of Wadesville, Robert Reynolds Jr., of Cyn- thiana, Karen Burns, of Cyn- thiana, Phyllis Jean Hannah, of Evansville, and Rita Stock, of Evansville; grandchildren, Jennifer Graper Nance, Jeff (Megan) Graper, Ben (Ash- ley) Smith, Melissa Graper (Cory) Shanks, Zach Graper, Tyler Graper, Hailey Wolfe, Kole Graper, and Elise Grap- er; and seven great-grandchil- dren. He was an avid Mo- to GP fan and sports bike rid- er. He enjoyed meeting new people to hike in the moun- tains with and ride motorcy- cles and travel. He is survived by his loving wife of 9 years, Kelly Haake, of Fort Branch; his mother, Marguerite Haake, of Princ- eton; his son, Chase Haake, of Fort Branch; stepchildren, Gabrielle Wright, of Evans- ville, Timothy (Kate) Wright, Jr., of Princeton, Hunter Wright, of Atlanta, Ga., Col- lin Wright, of Fort Branch, Evan Wright, of Fort Branch, and Noah Wright, of Fort Branch; sister, Melissa ( Ju- ri) Tupikow, of Naples, Fla.; one nephew; one niece; and one granddaughter.
