The Titans were 4-0 going into the week and beat Tecum- seh 12-1 on Thursday before coming back to top Harrison by a similar score on Saturday. Senior Kaden Hurless had three hits in the Evansville Harrison outing, and class- mate Brayden Malone banged out a pair of hits in the lop-sid- ed victory. No other details of the con- test were available at press time. Gibson Southern was sched- uled to travel to Newburgh on Monday for a non-confer- ence contest with Castle, and this afternoon, the Titans are scheduled to tangle in a Pock- et Athletic Conference (PAC) at Gibson Southern High School at 5:30 p.m. Tennis suffers first loss to Washington By Andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Southern's girls ten- nis suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Washington, 3-2 on Friday. Sydney Purcell at number three singles picked up the Titans lone win in the singles matches. She pulled out a 7- 5 win in the first set and then controlled the second set for a 6 -2 win. Lilly Schmitte and Lillie Booth lost their first set 6 - 3, but the roared back to win the second set 6 -1 and took the team point with a 6 -3 win. Kelsey Spindler at number two doubles suffered a loss of any kind for the first time. In their first matches of the sea- son they had not lost a game, let alone a set. But Friday they lost 6 -4 in the first set and then fell 6 -0 in the second set. Gracia Jones at number one singles and Helen Kiesel at number two singles ran in- to tough customers against Washington. Jones lost 6 -0, 6 -4 to Lacy Hancock, a fresh- man for Washington, and Kie- sel fell 6 -2, 6 -1. Washington was the lone Pocket Athletic Conference team last year to beat Gibson Southern. The Hatchets were state finalists last year as well. In the junior varsity match- es, Gibson Southern fared bet- ter. They won eight of the 10 matches. Maddie Boes beat Cassie Dillon 6 -5, Alyssa Wel- te beat Washington's Aly Moz- ingo 6 -1, Titans Maura Klue- sher and Emilee Bullock in doubles beat Abbie Brown and Gwen Goodwin 6 -0, Mal- lory Maurer and Lindsey Gar- bers beat Washington's Mol- ly McClure and Tylie Walton 6 -0 ; Titans Lily Hirsch and Emily Holzmeyer beat Ally Grow and Chaney Clarke 6 - 4; Molley Foster and Ella Hel- fert teamed up for the Titans to beat Mily Burton and Ga- bi Mejia 6 -3 and Maddie Boes and Linsey Garbers of Gibson Southern beat Shania Mosley and Lisset Santos 6 -2. That brought junior Con- ner Anglin to the plate for Te- cumseh, but Okes got Anglin to line out to left field on an 0 - 1 pitch to end the game and keep the Titans perfect on the year at 5 -0 overall and 1-0 in conference action. "We really played well," said Titan Coach Chris May after the conference victory over Tecumseh. "Okes did a great job on the mound for us, and our hitters put some great wood on the baseball." "We did not make an error in the game, and Malone and Dickerson again had multiple hits for us tonight, while Dick- erson had four RBIs and Hur- less had three RBIs." "Every game is a new game, but right now, we are really hitting the ball well as a team, and our pitching has been very good for us the first 11 days of the season." "That being said, we have some very tough games com- ing up, with Evansville Cen- tral, Evansville Harrison, Castle, and Boonville all on the schedule in the next five days. We will be tested! " Gibson Southern was scheduled to take on Evans- ville Central on Friday at 5 pm. in Evansville. Saturday, the Titans were scheduled to play Evansville Harrison at 10 a.m., also in Evansville and both non-conference outings. On Monday, Gibson South- ern was scheduled to travel to Newburgh to tangle with the Castle Knights at 5 p.m. in an- other non-league battle. The Titans are scheduled to host PAC foe Boonville at Gib- son Southern High School at 5:30 p.m. this evening in a con- ference encounter at home. By Andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Southern's boys and girls teams swept quadrangle meets last Tuesday with Vin- cennes, Evansville Christian and Barr Reeve. The boys won with 118 points over second place Vin- cennes Lincoln at 80, Evans- ville Christian 25 and Barr Reeve 20. The girls won 101 to 49 for Vincennes Lincoln, Barr Reeve 47 and Evansville Christian 43. Ella Jones brought home three blue ribbons for the La- dy Titans. She won the 100 meter dash in 13.48. Rachel Pohl was third in 13.78. In the 200, Jones won in 28.08. Jones was also a member of the 4x100 relay team along with Chloe Graham, Halle Pohl and Rachel Pohl that won in 53.22. The Lady Titans swept all three relays. The team of Courtney Hel- dt, Olivia Pennington, Car- men Hasenour and Taylor Hart won the 4x800 relay. The other winning relay team was the 4x400 team of Keelyn Wilkerson, Hase- nour, Nola Ravellette and Hailey Richter won in a time of 4:39.08. The Titans took the top two places in the 400 with Carmen Hasenour winning in 1:04.85 and Keelyn Wilkerson second in 1:07.03. Gibson Southern took the top three places in the 3200 with Olivia Pennington win- ning in 13:07 followed by Ma- dalyn Steckler in second at 13:20 and Aleks Parmer in third at 14:10. Haley Edwards won the shot put with a distance of 33'9" and Chloey Graham was second at 32'. Graham was al- so second in the discus with a throw of 85'11". Miah Roesch in the 300 hurdles had the Titans' other first place finish with a time of 50.42. She also placed third in the 100 meter hurdles. Courtney Heldt placed sec- ond in the 800 with a time of 2:31.69. Taylor Hart was third at 2:41.62 and Elizabeth Steckler was fourth at 2:51.06. Heldt placed second in the 1,600 with a time of 5:53.25. Steckler was third with a time of 6:20.28. The Titan boys dominated the throwing events, sweep- ing the top four places in both the discus and shot put as Sloan Cox crushed the school records with a toss of 58.5" and Hayden Pennington won both distance events.
