I thought we had old man COVID on the run, but he has shown us we have only won a little battle and not the war. If for some reason you haven't had your vaccination please do so. We will have more of a chance to defeat this virus. I was elated when I became eligible to receive my vaccina- tion. I will not lie to you the shot did make me uncomfort- able about a day, but if it works even a little for me that one day of being uncomfortable will be worth it. As of right now get- ting your shot is basically your choice but there is a lot of talk about not being able to do ma- ny things without proof of vac- cination going on too. I don't advocate mandatory vaccina- tions, but I would solicit your help fighting with those who have had their shot. Steve and I were fortunate to be able to share our music with several people at the Pike County Fair last Thursday. We were scheduled to play again on Friday evening and we were looking forward to it if the weather cooperated. We were blessed to get our show done before the rain started. It was so hot when we were setting up our equipment we were perspiring like a cou- ple of borrowed mules. Our young man who was playing also had a good family back- ing and support present and they seemed to enjoy all of our performances. Conner is a good guitarist and sing- er and we may well be saying I knew him when. We have been putting a new coat of stain on our house which is cedar sided. Using a half sized roller seems to be a good way to apply this stain . There is very little mess with it. We have about half of our house done and it sure makes the house look cleaner and brighter. My friend and his wife are being ordained this Satur- day at the presbytery meet- ing. I'm happy for them and I think they will be good work- ers for their church. As always I ask you to be blessings out in the world be- cause you never know who may touch with a smile and a how are you doing. Learn to listen and watch for your chance to be that blessing. If I live a holy life shun the wrong and do the right, I know the Lord will make a way for me. These words have been in my life and I have found them to be true. Accept Him as your Savior and you will find them true also. Be blessed this week and find the peace of God that passes all understanding. Remember those that are in the hospital, nursing homes and those that are home for recovery. Lift up in prayer your pres- ident, U.S. Congress, your state and local government of- ficials as the Bible states that we might live a peaceful life. Mighty to save Dr. Kent Brantly, a U.S. medical missionary who con- tracted the Ebola virus in 2014 in Liberia, credits a "mighty God" — and lots of prayers — for his survival. A fter recover- ing from the disease, Brant- ly returned to the North Car- olina headquarters of Samar- itan's Purse, the group he'd been working with in A frica. He spoke about Deuterono- my 6, saying it's important to remind others of God's acts. "I will never grow tired of talking of this," Brantly said. "I'm going to keep telling my story so I can remember what God has done in my life." Then Brantly offered this challenge: "Never think you're just a normal person. If you're pursuing God's calling in your life, he will use you. Even if it's a challenging call- ing, even if you find yourself in difficult circumstances, he will give you what you need to be faithful to him, even if it's a whole army of people praying for you. Share your story over and over and over so you can remember we serve a mighty God." Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Amy Melhiser, Secretary OTWELL WESLEYAN CHURCH 2277 N. Mechanics Street Otwell Pastor 812-354-3028 Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.; morning worship at 10 :30 a.m.; 6:30 p.m. Sunday eve- ning worship service. Kindness Ways to show kindness to others: • Smile and say "hello" or "good morning" to a stranger walking down the street. • Pay for the person's cof- fee behind you. • Leave a sweet note for someone you love. • Let another driver merge into your lane – with a smile on your face. • Pass along a wonderful book you've finished reading. • Give praise to others whenever possible. • Create a care package for someone feeling under the weather. Does God reward kindness? The Good News: Being kind to others — even when it is not immediately recip- rocated— can provide many blessings in the long run. God always rewards our efforts. "Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad." The Good News: It costs nothing to speak kind words to others.
