The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, August 4, 2021 C-1 CHURCH Submit church items: Call: 812-354-8500 Email: news@pressdispatch.net or bring in a hard copy: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg "But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to tes- tify the gospel of the grace of God." –The Apostle Paul in Acts 20 :24. "Grace to you, and peace" (Rom.1:7); "Being justified freely by His grace" (Rom.3:24); "We have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand" (Rom.5:2); "The grace of God, and gift by grace… is by one Man" (Rom.5:15); "The abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness" (Rom.5:17); America has gone through a time of test- ing like we have seldom witnessed. It is now time for political parties to come together and do what is best for our beloved nation. The drift toward Socialism and away from the Ju- deo-Christian faith must be stopped. "In God we trust" must become our purpose and guide. We need to pray for our elected leaders that they will have courage to do what is just and right. We must take advantage of the oppor- tunity to restore moral and spiritual values to our public life. Recently, we have seen the weakening of our moral values and a break down in the tradition- al home. A whole generation of young people have been tainted and influenced by the con- duct of our leaders. We need integrity, hon- esty, and good examples. It is not enough to talk religion, but it needs to be practiced in our daily lives. At a time when Gallup tells us the polls show church attendance is at an all time low, it is not more religious talk that we need but a strong faith in God. The faith of the American people needs to be renewed. We need leaders from both political parties who will put God first and then preserve policies that honor God and serve all the people. 'Self' should be put aside, and the people should be served in a way pleasing to God. Once more we need to be that city on the hill and a beacon light for all nations to look to. Let us pray for our leaders as we get a new start in this nation. Pray that God will rule in the affairs of government and renewal and faith will be restored. We must not depend on past blessings but pray that God will bless and renew America today. Stam I sure hope everyone stayed safe through our recent heat wave. Once again we got hit with high humidity and hot temperature and I for one believe our grass loves it. You can see the grass grow over night. I'm not complain- ing, but I have made adjustments to my days so I can get done what I have to before it becomes uncomfortable. Don't you wish we could can up some of the heat to use this winter? We tried to install a new printer last week and we finally went back to the old one because the new one was more stubborn than we were. We will try again when we have more patience with it. I can't see why we have to complicate everything to the point of making things so difficult. When it comes to being difficult and stub- born our government seems to live just to make things complicated. Why can't an issue be placed in front of our elected officials and they actually discuss it with the goal of getting something done rather than have a huge de- bacle over it. I've said it before the word of the day for our elected is compromise and work until a workable solution is had. I realize we do have party politics but we also have Amer- ican issues which should never be addressed by anyone's platform. I respect the opinions of those who are Democrat and for those who are Republican but don't forget you are an Ameri- can first and foremost. Have you taken your pets to the veterinarian lately? We do our best to provide a good home for our pets and we also make sure they have their shots and wellness exams and in doing so we have spent lots of money on them but when you care for them you will do for them. When we hear the word suffering, we usually think of physical pain. But psycho- logical suffering is just as re- al and sometimes more devas- tating. It may be an inner grief or sorrow you cannot express, even to your dearest friend or spouse. It may sap your strength or paralyze you with anxiety. It may harm your rela- tionships, or even grip you so tightly that it becomes more than just a temporary prob- lem, but a serious psycholog- ical illness. Paul knew what it was to ex- perience psychological suffer- ing; he had told the Corinthi- ans he had written them "out of much affliction and anguish of heart" (II Corinthians 2:4).
