Poplar Street, Petersburg Breidenbaugh honored for 60+ years of service By Andy Heuring Ray Breidenbaugh was honored for more than 60 years of service to Twin Oaks Church. Breidenbaugh, now 85 years old, stepped down as a member of the church board recently. "He has been on the board every year, except one, since 1958 or 59," said Clark Gray, who is pastor at Twin Oaks. "He has been a Sunday school teacher, trustee, Sun- day school superintendent and on the church board for years. (He has been) a cen- tral figure in the church for 60 years plus he has been a pillar," said Gray. He added, "Ray has been a prayer warrior." Brieden- baugh was honored last Sun- day during the Sunday ser- vice for his dedication and service. Gray said the day before that service, they were hav- ing prayer together. "He was asking God to 'let there be a special day tomorrow.' He had no idea of what we were going to do. I was praying with him and I thought 'we are going to make it a spe- cial day.'" Barry Whitaker, who was pastor Twin Oaks Church for 16 years, has glowing words for Breidenbaugh. "He is a faithful, dedi- cated leader in the church. (There are) probably some that loved the church with equal love, but probably not anyone who loved and sup- ported the church anymore than Ray Breidenbaugh," said Whitaker. "He had a love for God, family and the Twin Oaks Church. Just a man of faithful love and integrity. He was al- so a leader. There were times that without Ray's leader- ship, in tough times, it might have folded. He was a leader who held the church togeth- er in tough years." "He was just someone you could count on," said Whita- ker. Ray and his wife, Martha Breidenbaugh, during Sunday morning service when Ray was honored.
