Properties where hunt- ing will be allowed with fire- arms only (i.e., any firearm legal to take deer on public land in Indiana) are Chain O'Lakes, Indiana Dunes, Lincoln, Ouabache, Poka- gon, Potato Creek, Shaka- mak, Spring Mill, Sum- mit Lake, Tippecanoe Riv- er, Turkey Run, Versailles, Whitewater Memorial state parks and Cave River Valley Natural Area. Properties where hunt- ing will be allowed by ar- chery only (i.e., any ar- chery equipment legal to take deer in Indiana) are Clifty Falls and Fort Har- rison state parks and Trine State Recreation Area. The dates on which hunt- ing will be allowed on these properties are November 15 –16 and November 29 –30. Volunteers can apply on- line at on.IN.gov/reserved- hunt, where additional guidelines can be found un- der State Park Deer. Appli- cations must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 9. Management hunts are carried out exclusively to achieve an ecological objec- tive — to ensure balanced and healthy natural com- munities for all plants and wildlife within park bound- aries. Successful applicants are allowed to take up to three deer, only one of which can be antlered. Deer harvest- ed at a state park manage- ment hunt are not counted toward regular statewide bag limits. "Trophy hunt- ing", i.e., passing on does or smaller bucks to wait to take a larger buck, is count- er to the ecological objec- tive of state park manage- ment hunts and is strongly discouraged.
