Alas- ka Sky Shover, daughter of To- rin and Taylor Shover, was the First Runner-up; Second Run- ner-up was Hunter Hyneman, son of Chris Hyneman; and Third Runner-up was Patrick O'Brien, son of Joey and Ca- sey O'Brien. Also at the fair this year was a Cutest Kind contest, and Wil- low Thomas, daughter of Mi- chael and Abby Thomas, was declared as the Pike County 4- H Fair's Cutest Kid. Ezra Ken- dall, son of Andrew and Taylor Kendall was First Runner-up; Second Runner-up was Seren- iti Goodge, daughter of Trevor Goodge and Shanae Fulcher; and Third Runner-up was Jo- seph O'Brien, son of Joey and Casey O'Brien. Patoka Valley Quilt Guild July meeting The Patoka Valley Quilt Guild met on July 6, at the Ferdinand Community Cen- ter with President Melissa Ruschau presiding. The trea- surer's report was given, and committees gave their month- ly report. Sherri Hilgeman report- ed for the Education commit- tee that Open Sewing at the Ferdinand Library would be July 15 -17 and August 19 -21. Block magazine by Missou- ri Star Quilt Company is still available at the Jasper library. The quilt show is on display at the Thyen Clark Cultural Center until August 20 with an opening reception on Au- gust 5 from 5 -7 p.m. Special Projects report- ed the distribution of quilts this month to Crisis Connec- tion, Good Sam's and Memo- rial Hospital. Some kits were available for members to take seven and finish. The Retreat committee reported that the St. Meinrad retreat this Fall will be September 7-9. Mem- bers should send their paper- work to Ann Jorden as soon as possible. In New Business, the 2021- 2022 Budget was presented. In newsletter discussion, it was decided to discontinue the monthly newsletter at this time. The telephone tree will be utilized for short no- tice information. Three mem- bers volunteered to judge the quilts at St. Mary's Ireland for their picnic. The program for the meet- ing included Fidget Quilts for Memorial Hospital. Members were requested to bring any materials they are willing to share to the next meeting. The program also included in- formation on how to quilt your small quilts either by hand or machine. The August pro- gram will include a two part mystery project. The next meeting of the Guild will be Tuesday, August 3 at the Ferdinand Communi- ty Center. New members are always welcome. German American Bancorp reports strong second quarter German American Ban- corp, Inc. (Nasdaq: GABC) reported another quarter of strong operating perfor- mance, resulting in quarterly earnings of $23.8 million, or $ 0.90 per share, during the second quarter of 2021. This level of quarterly earnings rep- resented an increase of $4.3 million, or approximately 22 percent on a per share basis, from 2021 first quarter earn- ings of $19.6 million, or $ 0.74 per share. On a year-over- year basis, the current quar- terly earnings, as compared to second quarter 2020 earnings of $14.3 million, or $ 0.54 per share, increased by $ 9.6 mil- lion, or approximately 67 per- cent on a per share basis. The second quarter 2021 earnings growth was driv- en by a number of factors in- cluding strong balance sheet growth, within both the core loan portfolio and deposit base, improved net interest income, and a reduced provi- sion for credit losses, coupled with a solid increase in core non-interest income and disci- plined control over non-inter- est expenses. As of June 30, 2021, the Company's total assets were $5.349 billion, representing an increase of $128.7 million, or 10 percent on an annualized basis, compared to March 31, 2021, and an increase of $497.5 million, or 10 percent, compared to June 30, 2020. Area Reunion TYRING REUNION The descendants of Virgil and Aileen Tyring had their annual reunion at the Fairfield Inn in Evansville on July 10.
