Stam See VIEWPOINT on 7 There is no institution on earth as valuable to our society as the family. No political party or extreme anti-God people will ever change this fact. God created man and woman and no liberal judge can change the truth of God's eternal Word. Sadly some denominations and many churches have caved into our culture. The basic building block of our American society is the family. When our homes are destroyed, our society will eventually disinte- grate. The church must proclaim the message of the Bible when it comes to God's plan for the family. Any pastor who does otherwise is a phony and should leave the ministry. When homes are broken and shattered we must first focus on restoration, for- giveness and a new be- ginning. We must never depart from God's orig- inal, well defined plan for the home. The fami- ly is in crisis and only the message of Jesus Christ can change things. A few years ago a study by the Southern Baptist Convention dis- "We have… the forgiveness of sins, accord- ing to the riches of His grace" (Eph. 1:7). The climax of Paul's first recorded sermon is reached in Verses 38 and 39 of Acts 13, where he declares: "Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this Man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: "And by Him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses." Thus God, through Christ, forgives and jus- tifies those who believe. Nor is this all that was accomplished for us by the death of Christ at Calvary. There is also reconciliation, baptism by the Spirit into Christ and His Body, a posi- tion at God's right hand in the heavenlies and all spiritual blessings there. "The forgiveness of sins" must come first, however, and the above passage assures us that in Christ we have this — not barely, but "according to the riches of His grace." Indeed, the next verse continues: "wherein He hath abounded toward us…" Thus Eph. 2:2-7 declares that though we were once "the children of disobedience," and therefore "by nature the children of wrath," "God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us" has given us life and raised us from the dead, exalting us to "heav- enly places in Christ…" His purpose in all this? "That in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus" ( Verse 7). When God forgives us He no longer sees us in our poor selves, but in Christ, who took our place, dying for our sins on Calvary's cross. There He hung in our place that we might now stand in His — "complete in Him" (Col. 2:10). Hey it is time to share a few words with you folks so here goes nothing. I hope everyone is doing as well as possible. We'll start this week with a shout-out to Gar- ry Shelton or Tater as he was affectingly called when we worked together at IPL. Tater was a good worker and he wasn't afraid to tear in- to anything although there were times when maybe we shouldn't have went so far because we sometimes got stumped. The job however got done and we moved on to another project. I pray Garry and his family receive many bless- ings and long and happy lives. It is seeming the covid virus is doing its best to infect us and it gets closer and closer to my family. My sister tested positive and is now in an isolation area at Amber Manor with sever- al other residents. She has not shown many symptoms yet except being congested so may- be everything will be okay. Her son lives in Odessa, Texas and I keep him aware of what is going on with his mother. It makes it bad when you can't see people affected by the virus but it is for the best to be cautious. My friend who pastors at Cup Creek Gener- al Baptist caught the virus and he and his fam- ily are sick from it. The people at church are praying for his family and of course there are concerns about exposure or not. My question is this, how do you know if you have had an ex- posure. How much of an exposure do you have to have to be in danger? There are more ques- tions than answers and it seems as though the virus does as it pleases. We were in Vincennes recently and Indi- ana was supposed to be back to normal oper- ation but there weren't many more people out than before. The mask mandate is still in af- fect but there were some ignoring the wearing CHURCH CHURCH Notes Notes Notes Baptist Baptist Continued in next column Continued in next column Continued on the next page Sunday, O ct Ober 4 MT.
