Winslow Patoka River, as of January 23, was just below the full line, but we are sup- posed to get rain of about one-half to an inch over two days. The temps from the 18th were cold and started in the 30s, but the 20s took over and brought with it the teens and single digit winds over the weekend, with snow flurries that lasted for two days. The temps began to rise again, but it was still cold enough to wear that winter hat to keep your body heat inside. Wednesday, Jan. 22, the temps began to rise into the low to middle 40s, with nights into the 30xs, with more rain, mix and snow. I mentioned that I spent last week up until the 19th in Illinois to help George and Deby with Mom as she recovers with her injuries from the car accident. Mom has bruises that were almost black in color all over her stomach area and her chest was bruised and hurting a lot as she would lie down in bed and as she tried to get up. All of these hurts got a little easier through the week, but the pain is still there. Thanks to the Lord she has no broken bones. Laura and I started for home on a cold and windy day with sunshine that became clouds the farther east we trav- eled and when we passed the Fairfield exit, that is when we began seeing a few snowflakes. By the time we got to Pike County, the flurries began to stick to the grassy areas. There were fields of floodwaters from the Little Wabash River on both sides of the interstate and we also passed in the median a grey fox or coyote eating something. Speaking of coyotes, I heard and saw two sets of eyes on the spoil bank hill and their howls were loud enough I thought they were in the corner lot. I'm glad the dog and cat were inside. Norm took a picture of a colorful sun- rise here in Winslow by the lagoons or on the way to it. The colors began with a bright yellow to orange and then pink, red and purple all blended into each other and it covered the eastern sky. Last Friday, the 24th, was Laura's birthday and her greatest gift is to spend it with her daughter, Kyana. Birthday wishes to Laura and for her to have the greatest day of her 39 years. Our town workers and Norm got some shots to help them as they do all kinds of dirty jobs around our areas. Some symptoms do occur, but with any shot, you do have some symptoms for a few days. Now they will be protect- ed for those certain jobs that have to be done. Can you believe that January 2020 is almost gone? Just this week and Groundhog Day will be here to see if we will have six more weeks of winter or will spring come early in six weeks. And whatever happened to our winter, will we ever have one? I know we all love this weather and I guess I'm lik- ing it also. Kindness continues into the new year when a neighbor has a basement full of water and in need of a sump pump. Besides that, the furnace was up off the floor, but not high enough for the water, which caused no heat to the house on a cold, windy day. But, they did have some kind of heat for a short time. Help whenever needed and your kindness will not be forgotten when you need some kind of assistance. I got a phone call George and Deby, who gave us great news about Mom, who is feeling much, much better from her injuries. Now she still has some chest pains when lying down but she has her strength and that helps her to get up and down, and walk around. Her smiles are back and the therapy to stay strong begins. The lights begin to dim on the week. Keep an eye on family and friends, if only to listen, slow down and enjoy your area. Stop for school buses. Always, smile, wave and say "hi" to everyone you see this week. Adam Scales (812) 354-8488 adam.scales@infarmbureau.com Karan Thacker, AFSP Owner 704 E.
