Call 812-354-4556 TABLES STILL AVAILABLE per table Hospital visitation restricted due to increased flu cases In response to the in- crease in influenza cases na- tionwide and in the Tri-State area, the hospital members of the Community Patient Safety Coalition are imple- menting unified hospital vis- itation restrictions effective Dec. 31. The restrictions include: •No visitors with influ- enza-like symptoms in the hospitals. Symptoms in- clude cough, sore throat, fe- ver, chills, aches, runny or stuffy nose, and vomiting or diarrhea. •No visitors under the age of 15. •No visitors other than immediate family or other significant persons as de- fined by the patient, and in some cases, healthy family members of newborns. Refer to your respective facility's visitation guide- lines. Exceptions to these re- strictions may be made for cases involving critically ill patients and end-of-life situ- ations. These restrictions were developed using recom- mendations from the Van- derburgh County Health Department. Visitors are encouraged to wash their hands fre- quently while in the hospi- tal and wear protective face masks when instructed. The flu can cause seri- ous complications and even death, especially in the very young, the elderly, and those with certain existing medi- cal conditions. These mea- sures are being taken in an effort to protect patients, families, and hospital staff. We appreciate the commu- nity's understanding and co- operation. Don't let a drive through cause you to drive past your dreams," said Hogan. 3 Emotional shopping "This is where you go out shopping looking to buy something to help you feel better or you are bored. We need to be careful. We need to cut that out. It isn't going to make you feel bet- ter. The sweater you bought on Thursday isn't going to make you feel better on Monday," said Hogan. 4 Debt "Debt is a thief. It steals from us now, but it also steals from our future," said Hogan. He urged people to write down their debts on paper and do an inventory of them. "It is really important to see exactly what your debt is." 5 Doubt "Final thing is don't doubt that you can get better. You can learn the skills you need to get better at handling your money. It will just take time," said Hogan. Hogan then switched gears to five things people should start doing this year. 1 Decide to get better "You are going to start to learn new things and deal with money on a new scale. We can decide to do it and try it all in the same minute," said Hogan. 2 Get on a budget! "A budget is simply telling your money where to go, in- stead of wondering where it went," said Hogan. Hogan said there is a free budgeting tool at everydol- lar.com "You can learn to manage your money." 3 Attack debt "I want you to get your money back," said Hogan. "Attack your debt by mak- ing a debt snowball." "Get a piece of paper and write down what you owe from smallest to larg- est. Make minimum pay- ments on everything but the smallest debt. All extra mon- ey goes toward the small- est debt. Get that knocked out. This is the momentum thing. Once you knock out a $500 or $ 600 debt, then you start to think you can do this, because you see the progress. It is motivating," said Hogan. He added, "Get- ting out of debt is about gain- ing momentum." 4 Establish an emergency fund "Once you get out of debt, establish an emer- gency fund; this is three to six months of expenses in a money market account that you can get to in case you have an emergency and need it." 5 Invest for your future "We have to utilize tools available to us to grow our money, utilizing 401ks and 403Bs, IR As and Roth IR As. Go sit down and talk with an investment professional," said Hogan. "Most of all, I want to en- courage you. Where you are, doesn't' have to be where you end up," said Hogan. He added, "Set goals as incremental check points. If you have an annual goal, break it down into small- er parts, by months or by weeks. If we focus by week accomplishing a set goal for that week and work to achieve that, then in 52 weeks, we can make any- thing happen."
