The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, September 25, 2019 C- 3 ty. We were tired but very gratified as the audiences at both places seemed to enjoy themselves. When- ever people start singing along with you it helps you keep going. Our Sunday school les- son concerned standing up for what you believe in, but don't become brash and over bearing with your stance. There is something to be said about being abra- sive, but it isn't God's desire for us to become abrasive with our views. The scripture lesson con- cerned greed and the Love of money being the source of evil. If you have enough to make it through this life, then what more do we need. One quote we used was "some people are so poor their money is the on- ly thing they have." Most of the time when we strive for more money, we end up do- ing things God would nev- er allow. If you have God as your lead and Christ as your Saviour, you are rich beyond anything the riches of this world could ever of- fer. Let us get to work being the person God has made you to be and learn to be content with what He has given you. Sermon title: Pay Me Now or Pay Me Later. Jesus, as recorded in Luke's Gospel, continues some hard teaching with another parable, this one about Lazarus. In the story, Jesus drives home the point that all we have, see and use is a gift from God. How we use the gifts is the choice we make. Failure to make wise choices and improper value judgments have consequenc- es, and God as judge is going to let those consequences hap- pen. So, we can pay attention to God and his call on our use of his gifts now, or we will pay later, the choice is up to us each and every day. Fam- ily, neighbors, friends, col- leagues and others stand around us in varying de- grees of need. Should we send them away to those who are more capable than we are? Certainly, some peo- ple's needs exceed our abil- ity to help them, but not al- ways. So many trials come in- to our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? It was struggling to force its body through that little hole. Then, it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily, but it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. What the man, in his kind- ness and haste, did not un- derstand was that the re- stricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly in- to its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon. Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives too. If God allowed us to go through our lives with- out any obstacles, we would not be as strong as what we could have been. "I asked for strength, and God gave me difficulties to make me strong. I asked for wisdom, and God gave me problems to solve. I asked for prosperity, and God gave me a brain and brawn to work. I asked for cour- age, and God gave me dan- ger to overcome. I asked for love, and God gave me trou- bled people to help. I asked for favors, and God gave me opportunities. I received nothing I asked for but ev- erything I needed." We invite all of you to come and worship with us. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter
